What is the best transmission for a b18a1 LS Vtec swap?
Hey i have an ls vtec engine swap in my car and im not happy with how tough it can be sometimes to go into first it seems to catch on somthing before going into gear. Anyways i don't know what kind of transmission it is and don't know where to look to identify it but the engine is an 89 ls b18a1 block and the top is a 96 gsr head. But my questions is if i wanted to swap out the transmission what kind of transmission would be the best transmission to look for?
It really depends on your goal.
B16/ITR = short gearing, you'll accelerate faster, be at higher rpms at certain speeds. ITR has LSD.
GSR = somewhat shorter 1-3 gearing, good for gas mileage at cruising speeds.
LS = longer gearing, good for gas mileage, does not give the ls/vtec its full potential.

I want to get the most out of my swap power/acceleration wise but still want to have not too bad top speed. Any suggestions?

If you have the money, a 98 spec JDM ITR tranny. It has the B16 1-3 gears with the 4-5 GSR gears with a 4.785 FD. You'll have good acceleration, but have better gas mileage in 5th.
