Clutch
Get up to about 40mph, put the car in 5th, and floor it. If your RPMs increase and your speed doesnt, your clutch is on its last leg.
Thats the only way I know of testing a clutch without taking it out.

believe you measure the distance from the rivets to the top of the friction surface using calipers. I'm not sure what the recommended replacement measure is.

There should at least be some meat beyond the gold circles in that picture - they're normally recessed slightly.

If its an OEM clutch get the reject sizes for it, other than that your just gonna have to look at it and make a descion, if you've ever seen a good clutch and a bad clutch its usually pretty easy to tell the difference

This doesn't make sense. You should be able to take off in any gear without stalling with the right amount of slippage. I think a better indicator would be if you are able to chirp 2nd by shifting really fast. If you can, your clutch is fine.

i'm too lazy to go look up the specs...
but i'll tell you if you're close to touching the rivets and the grooves in the friction surface are gone, go ahead and put a new one in.

another good test while the clutch is installed is to start the car, hold the cluth pedal in and put the car in 5th gear...then just let go of the clutch pedal...if the car dies instantly youre ok, if it takes a moment, it is slipping
