1997 civic hx fluctuating rpms
My gf's 1997 civic hx rpms will flucuate at idle and when cruising at a constant speed. Anyone experience this problem? Figure I'd ask if this is a common problem before I start pulling the TB and stuff off and cleaning them. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I figured it was that. Should I clean it or just get a new one?

check your coolant too. mine had the hunting idle and some coolant fixed it. but for the aicv get some carb/throttle body cleaner and take it apart and give it a good clean. that may fix it. it only hunts after the car has warmed up, correct?

Honda IACV's actually don't go out all that often, however the thermal valve needs adjusting a lot of times and it has almost identical symptoms as the IAC so check that as well. And yes check the coolant and the hose going to the IAC, clean the IAC out with some brake parts cleaner or electric parts cleaner and clean the plug out as well.

supposable the IACV is to blame if the idle hunts after the car has warmed up
if the car hunts upon start up its the thermal valve. at least that's what I've found out through a ton of research

Well, its weird because mine surges at idle but not when I'm driving. I've cleaned/replaced the IAT sensor, IACV, and the TPS and for some reason, I still surge. I'm very close to ordering a new TB. Bump for more info/help.
Vacuum leaks primarily cause surging/misfires under acceleration so if it's not happening when he's driving that probably won't be it--doesn't hurt to check anyways though
