Are all D2S bulbs the same?
Im trying replaced my HID bulb which is a D2S.But I dont wanna pay $250 for the bulb on my mazda.I can get it at work for a lot cheaper.I work at land rover. My question is if I use a land rover bulb would it be a different color than the other side?It still is a D2S bulb.Or are they all them made by the same manufactor?
There are 3 major manufacturers, Phillips, Osram, and GE. They all will fit in your headlight, but they wont all have the same output. There will be some differances, mostly color, and a new bulb will not match your other headlight, especially if the bulb is a lot older. The only D2s projector Ive ever seen that only uses Phillips bulbs is the ZKW bixenon, Osrams wont fit.
Put an osram and a phillips side by side and look at where the capsule goes into the base. Phillips has 4 prongs and the osram has a circle thing, the circle thing wont let the bulb sit flush in the projector, like I said the ZKW bixenon is the only one Ive ever seen like this.

I highly suggest replacing HID bulbs in pairs, and only with brand new bulbs, to ensure that the color temperature and light output is the same on both sides.
You can get brand new OEM Philips 4300K bulbs on eBay for $80/pair, so I would start there.

All OEM D1S/R and D2S/R bulbs are 35w.
Our company is about the only source for true 55 watt bulbs these days, not even Philips produces their DL50s anymore. So not to worry, you would be hard pressed to buy the wrong thing.

You can have a boosted ballast and run the same 35w bulb but then again that bulb will be boosted and run really hot since it wasn't designed for 55w to begin with.
Philips make DL50 D2S bulbs. They have over 5,000 lumens and are true 50w bulbs. they are used in airplanes and boats

All OEM ballasts are 35w and so are the bulbs, but you can boost the 35w bulbs for a higher output at the expense of a shorter lifespan and higher temps. However, if true higher wattage bulbs are used the lifespan is the same as 35w, temps apparently are a little lower because of pressure in the cleft, and the output would be greater than a boosted 35w bulb.

Really, because we can not even import Philips bulbs at that cost anymore.
