Congrats man! crits are so tough! the second you get dropped from the draft, youre day is done. I just had my first cat4 crit and it was brutal. I cant even imagine what youre race was like!
Hey that's awesome! Way to go Clayton!
What I thought was funny was that at the Expo Clayton was riding around on a road bike in gravel and just tearing around on it like it was a pos and I bet that bike was anywhere from $1500-2500. lol

Team bike... so it was $0 to me.
The race was 32 miles and we finished in 1:11, or a 27mph average. That's not blazing fast, but it was 90+ degrees and quite humid.
Here's a 20 second clip from a similar type of race that was a few weeks ago up here in Wisconsin. This race averaged near 30mph and the course included a couple of decent uphill sections.

This week we start what is better known as Superweek - a 17 day series where you can, if you choose, race every day. These races are 100km or 62miles each and average 30mph on most occasions. It is suffering at it's finest. Our team will skip the last day and head down to Chicago for race that has a $40,000 prize list. 20th place in that race will bring about $500, and if you win $9,000. Not bad for a couple of hours of work.
Cheers.

Clayton,
Good work !!!!
I remember years ago as a Cat 4 trying to do the Tour de Toona and Longsjo (or however it is spelled)..... and just simply amazed at how fast the Masters and Cat I/II were.... I made it to a Cat 3, but never attempted those races as a Cat 3.
Congrats. again... this gives me inspriration to get my 36yr old self back on the bike and training again.
