LMA: Failure rate
Okay, I am sure my lost motion assemblies are broken. Have done alot of reading on honda-tech and I am quite sure the symptoms I experience are signs of LMA failure.
For you guys that swapped them out, how many of them were faulty and required replacement? These things are expensive and I wish to buy just a few to get the broken ones replaced. Maybe an estimate will be good. I believe not every single LMA has failed, or my engine will sound like a bucket of marbles. I'm sure some of you will say just replace them all, but if I wasn't replacing my timing belt and water pump at the same time, replacing all of 8 LMAs will definitely not be as heavy on the pockets.

Even though i've never changed any of mine or ever even seen any broken, i've seen some for sale a while ago. You should check in the general market place.
Have you pulled the valve cover yet? I would take a look at the head and post pictures. Several here are very knowledgable on the topic of headwork. One of our Expo sponsors is Aquafina. He does quite a bit of headwork and could probably answer your questions better than most. Keep a tally on the prices of replacements. A new head from Len(another Expo sponsor) is in the $1650 range.
FYI: The old part # for b-series LMA has been superceeded to 14820-PCB-305. New style like s2k/K series.

New heads and new blocks are a waste of money. Grab a helms and do some work.
It is economical to buy new trans' when a complete rebuild is in order though, as those parts costs start adding up when you rebuild one. Not true in any sense for engines though.

$200 for the entire set or each?
Take a look here. An old cost sheet I have shows each at $34.05

BTW its a Helm manual, not Helms. Its Helm Incorporated.
