Default Smelling fuel

I have a 91 hatch w/ b16a1

when the car is cold I smell fuel till its warm.

I am also having idle problems, I took off the IACV and noticed it has jb weld in it (plug by previous owner). I ordered a new one but can that be the reason why im smelling fuel becuase of the IACV

I also was thinking of the timing, maybe retarding it and opening the spark gap by .02-.04. What is it suppose to be 17 for a 1st gen b16a1.

any difficulties getting it to cold start on the first try? You might need to replace the injector o-rings.

nope not throwing any codes, also I put in new injector o rings about a month ago, the old ones started to leak. SInce then I see no leaks under the hood. Maybe I have an exhuast leak before the cat. Hmm I dont notice any funny noises from the exhaust.

Your on cold start up is supossed to run rich by ecu.
The thing that stops this rich ness is your fitv.
So when the car heats up the valve closes and makes your car run regular and not rich anymore.

how is it running otherwise? It could be one plug or wire is not igniting.

Actually I thought you car changed the "rich ness" from the reading by the O2 sensor once it warms up. From what I understand the FITV is just there to help warm the engine up on cold days by running coolant through it until it reaches a certain temp. I could be wrong though...

Also check your gas cap!!! I kept smelling gas, no leaks anywhere, found out the seal on my gas cap "went bad" and the gas smell was coming from it leaking. Also inspect your gas lines, had like 3 of them go in my teg... so replace ALL of them if one is bad. Hope this helped

You might have a similar problem as I did.

I was smelling gas as well inside the car and "under the hood". The car was running great tho

Most of the time I opened up the hood to look around, I usually didn't do it until it already cooled off, couple hours etc and didn't find a thing.

Try starting car and letting it run while your hood is open, and check the fuel lines on top of the fuel filter.

Somehow mine was running out of the line, and let me tell you, these lines were damn tight.

Basically, to the point I bought a new fuel filter, I was bending the bracket left and right to get them fuel lines off, "I even released some pressure".

When I replaced the fuel filter, no more smells, no more leaks.

Sorry for the essay, hope this helps

I had a similar problem. I smelled fuel with no leaks and it turned out to be that My #1 cylinder was not firing properly because the main dizzy seal was leaking causing oil to pool in the cap on that particular post. Just my .02

When having the car idle, I pop the hood dont see anything..

I also noticed my friend( who I bought the car from ) he switched the spark plug wires from his 93 integra ls non vtec from my magnecor vtec ones (So I have a 93 teg ls non-vtec wires on my b16 vtec). Can it be that, the car not getting the right spark becuase of wrong wires..

any other ideas, can it be the vapor canister. I was looking at the gas cap, the seal has a few cracks. I might change it out. But other than that I dont see anything.
