Default How do I stop this squeaking?

95 accord

Every morning I get this squeaking sound coming from under the hood. I checked it and its surely coming from the timing belt.. not sure if its actually time to change it since I havent done the major tune up yet (still at 80k miles atm).

When I drive out and go at least 20+mph the noise fades then goes away. But when I slow down and go less than 20mph, the noise comes back.

To give you an idea, it sounds something like this:

Are you 100% that it's not the power steering or alt belt. Quick way to check is to spray a bit of belt dressing or WD-40 onto the belts while they are squeaking. Spray them one at a time, if the squeaking stops then it's time for some new accessory belts or an adjustment.

A timing belt won't normally squeak unless it's rubbing up against something. If it is your TB that's making the noise I would say you should find out why it's not lined up properly and rubbing against something. First fix the alignment problem and then replace the belts. It could also be one of the belt tensioners that is making the noise as well. If it is then it is time to change the timing and balance shaft belts and tensioners.

I usually spray it pointing down at the pulley trying to coat the belt and the pulley. It's easier to get the sides of the belt covered that way. Try the alt pulley first and then the PS pulley. You may have to spray it for a few seconds. It usually changes pitch as soon as some hits the pulley though.

if that doesn't work, you may want to check the alternator or A/C compressor bearing by removing the belt and spin them.
