Default 01 Civic Auto Tranny broken?

My GF's tranny in her auto civic is acting up. On the shift from 1st to 2nd, the tq converter used to lockup just fine, but recently it's been not locking up and just revving before I lift throttle and it catches.

Now, she had to abandon the car b/c it now doesn't lockup in 1st gear, so it won't even limp home.

I've searched online, and I've found people saying that shops replaced the tq converter and it was ok for a few weeks, but the problem resurfaced. Apparently it's something with a solenoid or the filter being clogged or something. I'm pretty sure the tranny fluid has never been changed or flushed.

Anyone have any ideas?

why dont you start with doing a full flush then? the auto trannies in this cars arent that great to begin with. theyre probably one of the worst honda has ever designed while the manuals can handle 400whp+

i suggest you get a transmission cooler whenever you get it fixed. they tend to extend the life of the transmission. oh and how many miles are on the tranny?

124k miles on everyhting.

I was going to get a flush, but I've read that it's a bad thing to do. Although, it can't get much worse than not working.

How can I get access to the TSB's besides just the title? There are tons of TSB's for the 01 drivetrain.

I looked at those. She's showing a code p0740 right now. I took the bus home and walked to her car and drove it home in 2 onlyso it didn't shift. It drove fine. The problem is when it shifts. 1st is fine until the shift, then the converter never completely locks up after that. It's a slipping problem.

You should never perform a fluid "flush" on a honda trans according to honda. Simply a drain and fill.

You're most likely going to need a transmission. I'd suggest taking it to a dealer to have it confirmed and start looking for a transmission. You could call American Honda and ask for assistance or if you live near my work we'll give you one for free.

Well, the car is totally worthless now. We haven't driven it in a few days, and it won't even backup or drive.

Who do I call at Honda NA?
