Default Popping noise, clunking noise after strut install

I redid and rechecked the driver side strut 3 times because it keeps making a popping noise. I did both passenger and driver side with oem struts on stock springs!

Passenger side was fine on first try with no noise!!

Driver side keeps popping or clunking! All the arrows line up right and spring seats nice in the perch! I have new bearing rings installed. I greased the coil where it looks like it may touch. I greased top hat and spring seat. Is there something else i am overlooking?

What else can it be? Tied of taking the damm suspension apart even though i can do it now in 10 minutes!

The spring? If i turn it upside down it won't sit right in the perch

Could be a bad strut mount. I always replace them w the strut. To avoid what your going through

Could a bad strut mount cause that noise?

The bearings are new.

Before i dissasembled the oem strut and spring i marked everything with a white paint line~

I assembled everything nice and redid it 3 times! The springs fits nice in the perch on the bottom. When i release the spring compressors i make sure the top sits nice and even. Not sure how else to try!

Need some pics other than those in the FAQ.

hm... as far as a poping noise goes, thats the only thing I can think of, when i did my springs and struts, the was a single poping noise of the spring setting, but it never poped again after that....

hey i got this problem too after i installed some lowering springs two years ago. the suspension on the front passenger side of my car has that clanking noise "only" when i hit bumps and what not. other than that, i don't hear it. i just ignore it cus this has been goin on for quite sometime now. but if it causes any detrimental issues to your car's suspension let us know.

the most common clunking or poping noise is from springs that arent seated correctly, The only other thing that i was thinking could clunk, is perhaps your bumpstops... I know that if you have a lowered car you should but your bumpstops so they dont hit as often... but i dont think it would cause a poping noise....

Yeah i had a heavy clunk noise so i did the compliance bushing and that noise went away.....thats when i noticed the leaky strut. So i ordered new ones and replaced using the old springs. Now a clank or rattle noise. Not so much a popping noise anymore since i reassembled the same strut 3-4 times and reinstalled it on the car. Still can't get rid of that noise.

I am thinking its the coil spring itself. Its impossible to immitate the noise when the car is in the air or the wheels are off.

why dont you try switching the front springs... and see if the sound is consistent with the strut or the spring.

FINALLY SOLVED!!!!!!!

I left the car on the ground and turned the wheel all the way. I started pulling on the control arm, spring, strut, etc. Then i pulled the sway bar and i heard a noise like it was loose. I removed the wheel and checked the end link nut. I turned the wrench and it just spun. I realized there is an allen key hole, like when doing a strut nut under the hood. It actually took at least 3-5 full turns. NO MORE NOISE NOW!! And the car handle 100 times better. No more bump and pull!

Check those sway bar end links! Tighten with allen key to hold and 14mm wrench

Yeah, lol, Thats a double for not checking that.
So i guess the hype about the well known noise does not always apply. Just a coincidence that i did the strut and got that infamous noise, lol.
