i called the dealer to remake one and they are telling me that there's chip in the key for year 2000. and they are telling me that i will be able to open the door but can't start the car. anyway to bypass that in the ignition?

 

Why didn't you ask the dealer if you could buy another key from them. It shouldn't cost more than about $100 if it has the chip. Bypassing the chip will cost you time and money and will probably lead to more problems.

 

x2^ with the vin number they should be able to give you a new key on the spot

 

call around and you can probably get the key AND have it programmed for less than $50. at least that's what i was able to get for my brother's '02 accord from Buena Park Honda in CA.

 

i would change all locks just in case. you never know.

better safe than sorry.

 

lol this happened to my buddies mx3 what we did was go to crappy tire and open the box for a remote starter shows how to bypass it lol

 

i'd pay $7 for a pair of fresh copy keys at dealer.

 

you have to get it from the dealer with the VIN

 

i also heard u gotta have the car over there or Towe it there so they can get the code from ur car..

 

lost the key for a pt cruiser once and i had to tow the car to the dealership. cost about 100 to get a new key with chip and to have the info downloaded into the new chip. call the dealership and ask

 

Most dealers now will either make you tow the vehicle there or make you show current registration and a few forms of I.D.

 

Acura gave me a new key for free when i lost mine.. i just needed my ID and registration.
