Default It never ends, Knock Sensor Code 23

Yeah so I've finally accepted the fact that my car is a temperamental prostitute and pisses me off and breaks just so I pop the hood so to speak. I finally got the IACV situation all squared away and now I'm throwing code 23, knock sensor malfunction. Firstly, WTF? Then engine is a Si-R II B16A and its in a 93 Civic DX Coupe and I never even knew I had a knock sensor. Is the sensor broke or am I in store for a **** load of other problems? Also, I'm throwing automatic transmission lockup code so I'm assuming that the place I got the swap from sent the wrong ECU, (I hope.) Finally, after months of fixing and tuning, I still can't get this POS to stop idle surging. I have no clue anymore. Seriously, if anyone can clear up any of my confusion, feel free to do so because I'm getting close to just torching this thing.

you may have a gsr ecu instead of a b16 ecu..wiring in a knock sensor is very easy but you may want to get a b16 ecu i think it will run alot better.easy way to tell if the engine has a spot for one is to just look at the block under the manifold .maybe somebody else knows if the b16 ecu looks for a knock signal..????im sure someone will chime in

If its an OBD2 engine it will have a knock sensor. I believe.

To much confusion here.

What harness are you running?

JDM motors do NOT have knock sensors.

Harness was off of my old DX engine (D15B7). If its the ECU thats the problem, my Hondata S300 equipped P28 should be here Thursday

Is the motor a JDM motor? Is your car OBD1 or 2?

I was under the impression that JDM VTEC engines hav a knock sensor, as well as some non-VTEC engines, while some non-VTEC engines do not have knock sensors.

I won't be happy if my 11.1:1 CR B18C doesn't have a knock sensor.

What's all this talk about Vtec and compression? What does that have to do with emissions controls? It matters if it's JDM or not.

I'm talking abotu whether or not the JDM VTEC engines DO have a knock sensor, because if I DONT have one I may have detonation and not know about it. And that would not make me a happy camper.

OBD I engine out of a JDM 95 Civic Si-R II. The car originally was a USDM 93 Civic DX OBD I with a 1.5L SOHC engine non-VTEC, (D15B7). ECU in the car is an OBD I P30

If your engine is OBD1, then no you don't have a knock sensor.

And I saw that quote, but I also saw other people here on HT saying that some of the JDM engines do have knock sensors, so who am I to believe? Google has failed me. And I am far too lazy to get off my *** and look at the back of my block.

Ok, then WTF is going on? Its literally impossible for this to happen because, 1) the engine is a JDM engine, 2) The ECU is OBD I because it can hook up to my stock 93 DX harness, 3) The ECU comes from the B16A engine from Japan.

Major confusion ensues.

What is the code on the side of the ECU please?

The entire code? Because that would require me to go outside at 11:30 PM, (damn east coast), remove the passenger side carpet, take out 3 10 mm bolts, and then disconnect the ECU from the car. All I know is that its a "P30" ECU. Honestly, if you think that I just have some shady *** ECU, then I'm not going to sit here and worry about it, but I'll definitely get the code tomorrow for ***** and giggles.

from what i thought all jdm models all had knock sensors the only usdm model has a knock sensor i believe is the 94-95 del sel vtec the also has a jdm ecu (p30). my guess its your ecu there is a way you can get your ecu to eliminate the knock sensor talk to a someone that knows how to tune. my guess is to get a new ecu. either a jdm p30 from a 94-95 del sol vtec or either order a chiped p28 with new jumper harness to get everything squared away.

Yeah just wait till you get the p28 and the code will not show up. P28= OBD1= no knock sensor.

That has been the story of this swap from day 1. It has always been something. I had the wrong ECU at first, (P72 OBD II), then the transmission was garbage so I had to rebuild that, wrong motor mounts because the guy shipped me DC ones instead of EG... I work on cars for about 50 hours a week and the only one that kicks my *** time after time is my own. I will never, ever buy from anywhere shady again, (cough cough Osaka JDM Motors.) HMotors it is next time, but then again after this, I don't know if there will be a next time...

You live, you learn. I'm not going to get pissed about this again. I'm just trying to fix what I can. lol, its funny because my car should be a lot faster than it is. It has the JDM B16 with a JDM ITR S80 LSD transmission with the 4.785 final gear, Password whale *****, Strup 4-1 header, and A'PEXi N1 catback with no cat. The VTEC crossover is so sloppy and *****, my friends stock 2000 EX cracks over it. I sit there and I'm like what the [freak]. I'm praying that the S300 P28 will be the fixer of all problems

Meh, I hear that a lot. I'm not expecting K- like power out of it, I'm just expecting ear splitting VTEC

True. But you have like 5lbs more torque then a D16Y8.

Anyways. Good luck and let us know how that ECU goes.
