Default New alternator and car still doesnt stay charged!

My car after a few days after a battery charge would eventually not start..

I diagnosed as much as i could and swapped the alternator.. same problem!

My only thought is i drove around on the old alternator (the one i suspect was bad) for a day before i put the new alternator in and didnt charge the battery back up.. Now 4 days later the car wont start again.. But i have power everywhere else??

Could it be because i operated my battery on the bad alternator for that one day?

That's a possibility. Get your battery tested at autozone or kragen for free.

Check to make sure you do not have some kind of fuse for the alternator that is blown.

Do you have any aftermarket accesories, stereo system, t.v., etc that could be drawing power even after the car is off? You may have a short or bad relay.

My alarm has an option that closes my sunroof automatically once my alarm is set. A relay is supposed to shut off the sunroom motor after the sunroof closed. This relay went bad and caused the sunroof motor to stay running continuously once I set my alarm, until my battery died.

How did they test your alternator at AZ, on the benchtop unit or while it was in your car? It wouldn't be that starter otherwise the car wouldn't have started even after you used jumpers.

I replaced the alternator with a reman.. What is AZ?

They only tested the alternator while in the car and only at the battery..

AZ = autozone. It's good they tested it while still in the car. If they did the test right, that is a better representation of the load actually being pulled by your car, instead of the load from the benchtop tester.

They tested them and said they were both good...

What the hell is my problem then... if its not the starter, alternator or battery...

Which relays should i check? And how do i check to see if one is bad???

My car is starting fine now... what the hell. Its like it only dies once out of every 20 times then it gets jumped and is fine for another 20...

Bump, suggestions.. I already wasted 130 dollars parts changing because i trusted some 40 year old parts changing autozone guy that said it was an alternator

My mom's TL had the same problem. It's not the batt or alternator. It's the starter. Try to crank it and it doesnt even crank? If it doesnt even crank...i'm pretty sure your starter is going bad.

I was considering that thought too.. Is there any way to test a starter?

When it doesn't start.. I remember I would turn off ignition and retry and after 5-10 times it would crank at least once. If you have that same symptom, I'm pretty sure it's your starter. Can anyone confirm??

It may be something as simple as a loose terminal. Check to make sure all the connections on the starter are clean and tight. The connection on the starter solenoid maybe corroded or loose. Get yourself a manual and start elliminating probable causes.
