Has anyone sold their ITR, gotten a newer car, and got sucked back into the ITR world...
As the topic states, just wondering if anyone has used their itr as a daily, sold it for whatever reason... then bought a new, more refined car... only to sell that new car and get another itr.
Seems like former owners are split down the middle, some really miss the cars. Others don't care and enjoy their new, more amenity friendly cars.

I don't think it's split 50/50 at all... most ITR drivers come back again and again.
Personally, I sold the R, got an S2K only to 8 months later get another R. I'm pretty sure 80-90% miss the ITR once it's gone. Hell, there's a thread right now from Mike who's looking for his 4th.

As an only car... I would steer you to say no and keep the refined one.
ITR's as DD's/Only cars doesnt' make sense. Then you are forced to take it places you might not want to such as malls, movies and other places that they get stolen at. Now if you saved the $$$ from the newer car, and then bought a DD for say 2k and an ITR that would be a different story.

As Dave said, a bigger problem with the R being your only car is the high theft rate. Much more so than the R's age or it's "rawness" , which is part of what many people love about the car in the first place. My guess would be that theft wouldn't be a huge problem in Indiana...but it's a threat anywhere.

It's unfortunate, because in my book the only negative to daily driving an R would be the issues with douchebags and thieves.
Other than that, I can't think of too many cars that blend such high levels of practicality and performance. OK, so it's a little noisy and it doesn't have sat-nav. But how many other cars offer the R's track manners along with attributes such as:
• 25/36 mpg.
• industry-leading build quality and reliability.
• enough cargo space to haul a Marshall half-stack, two guitars in cases, a bag of cables and stompboxes, and a girlfriend.
• tidy exterior dimensions, for navigating crowded urban centers.
• an engine that will hum along smoothly and quietly like a Civic's when you want it to.
For me, the very appeal of the ITR is that it was designed as an excellent dual-duty car. If I could afford a track-only car, I'd be more tempted to get into a Lotus Seven, or something along those lines. So it's massively disappointing to me that the less ethical members of society are the sole deterrent to my own purchase of an ITR.

mkultra - your reasons are exactly why I consider one so heavily. Good mpg, can be used in autox or nasa all day long, reliable thus easy to maintain. If I bought one, I'd go into it with the mindset that I have insurance for a raeson and if it got jacked, well then so be it. I WOULD at least have a garage though.

If your that worried about theft, you can always convert it to a gsr look. Swap in 4lug, wing, rear badge.
Still have one hell of a daily but less likely to be followed.

And because of that, insurance sucks on it too adding to the whole TCO. I don't miss it but I did have a lot of fun with it when I had mine. It was practical, fun enough to drive and it was reliable.
I must be in the 10%-20% who hasn't looked back since trading it in. Then again, the convertible was just the gateway drug into removing the top to removing the "cage" entirely.

If you can take care of it, keep it safe and klamp it get it.
There's nothing quite like driving home from work, being tail gated by a nice mammoth dynosaur of and SUV or any other car for that matter and then coming up to a round-about or sharp corner, flying around it with no drama and watching the expression on the tailgators face, thinking "how the f#$k did he do that."
That alone makes it worth it in my opinion.

I had an R, and got rid of it for an S2K. Mistake. I then decided to try an M3. It was a very nice car, but was not for me.
I am now back in an R, and my happiness has increased since getting back to my passion.

Its funny you say that. I've had an 05 rsx-s with standard mods... Driving an ITR the couple times I did, it made the rsx seem stupid stock vs stock. The ITR feels so much tighter handling and braking wise. RSX handling was crap, braking was nothing impressive at all. I was honestly surprised when i drove the ITR, it feels so neutral on stock suspension, and so tossable, with very impressive stock brakes. Never felt a fwd car like that.
How you could prefer an rsx over that is beyond me.
typergirl - I sent you an IM, really want to hear more of your input.

Lets see....Power steering, AC, sunroof, good stereo, not a thief magnet, no ricers try and get me to race, Never get pulled over by the cops, just as quick. Maybe Ive already lost my taste for a car with really tight handling and loud exhaust/shitty stereo at an early age.

lol power steering and ac? ITR has both of those, maybe you meant to say cruise. Sunroof - bleh. Loud exhaust, stock isn't loud, the car is a bit louder cause of the sound deadening material... but yeah you've definitely lost your taste
my itr doesnt have PS or AC. And if i recall correctly, AC isnt even an option until the later model ITR's, and mines a 98. I dont really need a car that handles any better on the street than the RSX. I dont see you arguing any of my Many other Pro's to the rsx??

Also, from what I already see on salvage auctions RSX Type-S is already targeted by thieves since there are many people out there who are crazy about K20 swaps so, yes, unfortunately I think it will become a big thief magnet pretty soon.....

I hope it doesnt come to that just because of the K20. And yea my R is pretty bare option wise.

I hope so too......... just recently my buddy picked up an 06 RSX Type-S that was a theft recovery. Thieves took the motor + tranny and seats, so he bought another 06 Type-S that was beyond repair (hit on the side) and he swapped the missing parts...... he will be actually selling it soon and I'm very tempted to get it. ...just my .02

although I never had an ITR, I hope I can contribute to the thread...
my first car was a 00 LS sedan 5spd that I had for 5+ years (september 01-october 06). I paid practically retail for it, and then on top of that i spent a bunch of money going turbo and doing various suspension and stereo setups. in those 5 years, i acquired a daily driver, my 240sx (october 05). driving the 240 and teg back to back there were immediate differences in ammenities, with the upper hand going to the integra. extra doors, more cargo/passenger room, better build quality, easier to work on, etc.
however, i still ended up selling the integra because i didnt want it to get stolen and wanted something "newer". what really got me motivated to sell it was a test drive in my friend's lancer evolution, which just happened to be for sale. i found a buyer for the teg, and a month later the car got wrecked by the new owner (see avatar).
shortly after, i buy my friend's evo (financed, with a $450 monthly payment in november 06), and man it was great. i did a couple track events and autocrosses in it, did all the upgrades that everyone does, it was my dream car. directly comparing it to the integra, the only advantages the integra were financial ones (better mileage, cheaper to mod, easier to find parts, my teg was paid off, cheaper - but not by much - to insure etc) then shortly after the last track event i did (march 08), i realize i needed something more practical, not so much a race car that never gets raced (i never race on the street, i have a flawless driving record). the evo X goes on sale around that time, and I figure I better sell my 2004 evo before the used values drop even more.
i used to always scoff when people said "you'll come back" because I never believed i would come back.
but...come may 08, i picked up a friend's 97 GS that was in dire need of a restoration for really cheap. so i'm back at it in another integra.
so for the original poster and others that endured my post: here's why i'm glad i'm back in the game.
financial advantages over evo:
- its paid off!!
- 87 octane with 25 city / 34 hwy mpg
- cheap, abundant used parts (thanks hmotorsonline.com and Blue Motors)
- cheap, abundant maintenance parts
-if i wreck at a track - oh well - only a few grand wasted compared to an unpaid car left with a 15k tab to pay off
- cheaper to insure
- i'm not afraid to beat on the car, as if i blow the transmission/engine, replacements are abundant and not as expensive
subjective advantages for integra over evo:
- transmission is easier to shift
- easier to work on, no crazy awd drivetrain to work with
- cargo space (fold down seats)
- cruise control
- sunroof (although an option on some evos)
financial advantages of evo over integra:
- none
subjective advantages for evo over integra:
- all performance related aspects
- if car got stolen, insurance would cover a good chunk of the car
- OEM adjustable HIDs, cupholders, dimming domelights, dual trip meter, no creaking interior, solid sounding thud when doors close, ac blew cooler
relatively equal between both cars:
- reliability -yes i'm not joking- launch a fwd car with sticky tires enough and you'll break axles and go through transmissions - i know first hand
- recaros
- interior design
- attention factor to thieves/haters
so i dont know how relevant that is, but thanks for reading!
someday i'd like to own an ITR, but theft is just terrible in LA.
age and home situation also play large roles in what decisions you make for what your daily driver is as well.
i wouldnt enjoy taking CEO's around town in a lowered, loud, ITR.
safety standards also get overlooked when you're younger/single/etc, but as soon as you have kids and a family to look after, those crazy safety tests/standards/extra airbags become more appealing.
