Del Sol Vtec Timing Belt B16A
So I think my timing belt might have snapped on my Sol. I have a couple of questions, because I cannot perform the labor myself.
Is the B16 an "interference" engine? If so, what the hell is an interference engine?
Does this mean my valves bent?
Also, the car broke down about 100 miles from where I live (I was away for the weekend) and its at a garage to get repaired, how much would I be looking at to get this thing running?
I'm not really looking for help on how to repair it, just some answers for my already painful experience.
Thanks in advance.

most likely you do have some bent valves. Repair would be around $200-$400 for parts and labor ( valve replacement, timing belt, and labor)
hum,.. interference? Havne heard that before,.. all I now is that Honda motors B-D and H series motors run "backwards" means the crankshaft gears and timing belt run counter clockwise. now the new I-Vtec motors run the correct ( as they say ) way from clockwise. Plus Honda motors don't have a 'serpintine belt"
thats all I know hope this helps

It does help.
The reason I ask about the Interference is because my buddy (obviously more mechanically inclined than myself) stated this observation, and the guy at the garage also said the same thing. Being that I broke down about 100 miles away from home I was in no way paying that towing fee, and then have my car sit around for a week or two while my friends pick their brains trying to fix it. So here I am, stuck... atleast I'm at home.

Interference engine means that if u snap timing belt, you can bend valves. Non interference engines, for example the KLZE commonly used in Mazda MX-3 ( V6 engine swap) is a non-interference engine. It can snap timing belt, and not bend valves. Also the cost on your repair can vary depending on the amount of bent valves, since they are probably not too cheap ( HONDA). Also if you snapped the timing belt, there might be other things that might need replacing, like water pump, etc, or so I think. Anyways, good luck!
