so i've been having a pretty shitty run at work, busy as hell.


in the mean time, my cars been sitting in the driveway with an idle problem, finally got around to playing around with it, doesnt seem to be any leaks anywhere, the problem has seemed to get better after letting the car warm up for a few minutes, now the idle bounces from about 200 to about 800 non-stop. Smells like the car is running really rich, and theres an odd tapping noise under the hood...almost sounds like its coming from the injectors. Could bad plugs possibly cause a "tapping" sound?

 

unplug the iac and tell us what happens.

 

Could be:
- Vacuum Leakage
- Leaking EGR valve
- Clogged air filter
- Fuel pump not delivering sufficient fuel to the fuel injection system
- Leaking head gasket
- IACV issue
- Camshaft lobes worn
- Timing belt and/or pulleys worn

 

whats an egr valve?

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Check the hoses, the EGR valve lift sensor and the System EGR valve.

Are you having a CEL?

 

yeah but only for knock sensor i think. and that makes sense but that wouldnt cause an idle issue would it?
