Default Del Sol Exhaust

Hi,
I live in an area where I dont need to do an IM and am looking at putting a straight pipe from the headers back to a muffler leaving out the CAT. Are there any disadvantages to doing this? If so what are they? What mufflers do you guys prefer?

just get a high-flow cat or maybe a test pipe if emissions aren't an issue... wtf are you talking about an IM (intake manifold) for? The general rule-of-thumb is the less restriction = higher flow = more top end. our engines have **** for torque (NA) so you might as well get as much top end as you can.

my setup is megan racing headers + high-flow cat + 2.5" piping + magnaflow muffler. gotta say, im pretty happy with it.

I guess if you don't have to pass emissions it is fine if your vehicle is older than 96, if its a 96 or newer then its OBD II and you would have a O2 sensor in the cat and that would code without a cat. If not, just know removing the cat makes it kinda loud and raspy, but if you can tolerate that you are fine doing this.

We call the emissions test an IM up here don't ask me why lol. I don't really want a test pipe those are pretty loud right?
Will not having a cat make it really loud? What muffler will give me a deeper quieter sound?

99% of catback's do not include the cat... they bolt up to the cat, hints the name catback

lol, i knew id get asked that... its actually a adjustable c-pillar bar for EF's, but i would highly not recommend using it as a harness bar

Just a word of advice, I took my cat off and put in a resonated test pipe and when i did the 02 sensor could not get up to 600 degrees which is its operating temp. if the 02 sensor does not get to this temp then it will not do its job of altering a\f for best consumption. if your 02 sensor sits in the front close to the front of engine then you shouldnt have any problems but if it sits right behind the back then it will have to be moved closer to the front so it gets hot enough to oscillate.

I my O2 sits right up front so it should be fine. I believe only OBD2 have O2 sensors in the CAT

just because it sits behind the engine dosent mean that it is in the cat. i got a 95 gsr motor and it used to sit behind the motor untill I rewired it, also I know the y8 motors drop down under intake manifold so, but you should be fine.
