Clutch fluid in RC51
Needing to know what kind of fluid to run in the system. Not sure if there is a certain fluid for it or not thats particularly for bikes or if its just like a dot 3 brake fluid. I got the bike together and thats the last thing I need to do to get to riding it again other then body parts.
Any help is appreciated.
Any help is appreciated.
Also, need to know how to bleed the system properly. I have experience with doing it on race cars with hydro clutches but need to know how to get to it to bleed it and whats the proper procedure.
Thanks again
Thanks again
IIRC its DOT 3 brake fluid, i found a few bottles for pretty cheap at my local dealership that said specifically "DOT 3 Brake/Clutch fluid". Check your reservoir cap, it'll tell you for sure which fluid you need.
Also.....you should have bought a manual when you bought the bike. You need one. The bleeder valve is on the slave cylinder by the front sprocket cover i believe. I've never owned an RC51 before but thats where they've been since the beginning of time

it wouldn't be any different, at all. The RC51 was not a re-engineer of everything mechanically.

Thanks for the info, I have an owners manual but it just says "if something goes wrong take to dealer" lol but im probably going to get a service manual soon. I did figure it out, just went outside and checked and the bleeder valve is right infront of the foot controls so just need the fluid and i got it covered

clutch is a bitch to bleed. use DOT 4. Slave cylinder is down by your front sprocket. Get some hose of some sort to put on it and make sure you have the right size wrench to open it. Put fluid it. Put pressure on lever and crack the valve on the slave cylinder, when the lever is to the handle close the slave cylinder valve that the fluid came out of. DO NOT LET THE LEVER BACK ANY! If you do air gets in the system and it's a mother [freak]er to get out. This is easier done with 2 people too.

Can you go one thread about your RC51 without mentioning, "Oh I don't really need help, I drive a redneck car in a circle, so I know what I'm doing, but I really don't, so I need help"
Bleeding clutches suck, the KTM's you have to back-bleed, which with their tool is very easy. I would recommend this, as it'll be easier, and less time consuming.
Why does it need to be bled? how did it get air in the system?

No i can't go with out sayin it..sorry. But when I wrecked the bike it ripped the clutch reservoir off. So had to replace and now bleeding it. So far it hasn't been a bit of fun and seems like ive ran the fluid all the way through and im not letting air into the system..its taking for ever.
