I searched but all I get is that upper hose is supposed to be hot and lower warm. When car gets warm and I go drive it for 5 mintutes, both upper and low rad hoses are extremely hot and swollen. Car DOESN'T over heat, even at wo0t. Changed hoses, thermostat, radiotar, and bled sytem twice. It's a 95 civic with 93 ls. Please help...

 

Hmm...how did you originally find out that both hoses were getting extremely hot if your car isn't over-heating? Just curious.

 

Well i just got the car, and it was leaking some coolant through the cap. So the same day I changed the rad, hoses, and thermostat. And it started doin it, I have no idea if it did it before. I know the hoses weren't swollen, but that's maybe because the leak was releasing pressure...

 

Interesting...I'm curious to see if someone can figure it out.

I'm stumped if you changed pretty much everything there is to change...especially hoses, thermostat, and bled it twice. I would of guessed an air bubble in the coolant system.

 

That's what I tought, because the hoses feel like they are filled wih air but bleed..and no luck.

Also, water pumps makes no noise or doesn't leak. Coolant and oil clean, no smoke at all. So doubt headgasket is bad.

 

How many miles on the motor? Could be a water jacket is plugged. Which would suck, motor rebuild or new block. Check the metal coolant hose on the back of the block under the intake manifold. you have to pull the upper water jacket where the thermostat is. You could have reduced flow if that hose out of the water pump is plugged. Which would give you swelling and no overheating. Honda blocks are all aluminum and act like radiators themselves, thats why you can get away with a tiny *** radiator.

 

92k on the motor. So when I check that "water jacket plug", how do I know if it's clog all not? Thanks for the time..

 

your going to have to pull that top water jacket where the thermostat housing is and pull your coolant feed tube from the water pump, if that's rusted out or clogged then that will give you your radiator cause. and to check the water jackets in your block, do a flow test. pull all your hoses and remove your thermostat, and find out how much water your water pump moves in gpm and run it into a bucket using your garden hose, if you get no flow then plugged water jacket, go from upper hose to lower hose. see if that works.

 

sounds to me either your not getting all the air out the system or you have a small exhaust leak into the coolant system...I have seen where the head gasket will crack a little and the gas can escape but water cant get in...not likely but i have seen it happen.

Your best bet to bleed the system is just take the rad cap off and let the car idle for about an hour...rev it up some every few minutes. If that doesnt get any air out I would start thinking head gasket

 

take it 2 your local shop and they can test the coolant for exhaust gasses in like 5 minutes, it's what i did when i worked in a shop. It's short and definitive

like every1 said, you more than likely got alot of air in the system.
you MIGHT have also gotten the wrong hose. might be too thin.
but deffinately go get the air out of the lines
