Yeah, I've seen maybe 2-3 at auctions here in SoCal and that's around the price range they're at with decent mileage.

you picked the wrong time of the year if you want to go the auction route. convertible, and summer time go hand in hand. but if you lucky and since the gas price has slowed selling down, you might be able to get a dealer down in price if he really wants to get rid of his inventory.
im in no rush. i am waiting until the end of the year. if i dont get accepted the first time i apply to the nursing program (will find out november, december), im getting one for myself hopefully. if i do get it, i will probably settle for a civic si (em1). i also loaned out some money and should receive it back by then. this also let me save even more money.
9 out of 84 on ebay in completed listings have met reserve. Evidently they're not worth nearly as much as the owners think they are.
For a while (winter/spring) I was watching ebay and seeing some AP1's go as cheap as 11k. Not the auctions you're talking about, but if you keep an eye out you should be able to pick them up for around that at the end of the year I'd assume.

manhiem auto auction in California? i've seen better at manhiem (manhiem auto auction in Pennsylvania). ****, in the past 5 years working here i've seen two turbo'd s2000's come in. 3-4 vortech super charged ones, and one comptech. all for under 20k (dealer price) except for the one turbo s2k, that was a show car and went for about 25k.

It was probably traded in at a BMW dealership for a z4 convertible. Car is too beat up to be at a benz dealership, so they wholesale it.

so your dad, who is in Mexico, is going to score this car for you? In SoCal (err Mexico) or the normal US?
You can likely get them under 10K with higher miles on 00/01 models. Then again, it all depends on condition, year, and milage.
If you have connections to get one at an auction, you should already be well aware of the prices.

can you test drive the auction car before you bid it?(the last place i went you can't even go inside the car)
if not, dont buy it, there's so many expensive thing can blew up on you and you cant tell unless you drive it(or look for it during the test drive)

if it's a dealer auction then you can throw the dealer card at them and say you're a customer and wanna test drive. public, don't think you can.

i was thinking to use copart but i just got off the phone with my dad and told me he already had a bad experience with them. he will look around in mexicali, baja california and see if he sees any (people sell american cars across the border to mexicans). i dont hear from my dad much. we will see if he finds any 99-00 SI's or 00-02 s2000's. i already test drove a 2002 s2000. it will need a fixed bucket mounted basically on the floor for me to have the correct seating position (driving it in the stock seat cuts some of my visibility. i wish i could sit in someones s2000 that has a fixed bucket to know for sure about the seating position. that is a maker/breaker for the s2000.
damn. all the cheap ones disappeared. im a month or 2 away from buying a car. down to either s2000, impreza (havent driven yet), and an EP3. maybe winter time will be a good time to find one for cheap that isnt beat.

you do realize that most of these vehicles you're talking about are stolen, right? Keep a look out for a mint 95 silverstone metallic coupe while you're at it.
