Anyone usually know the cause of this? I have an aftermarket alarm, and the remote locks the doors, but won't unlock them (but it does turn the alarm off). I'm thinking it's something mechanical-related rather than electrical.

 

Your alarm installer screwed up somewhere along the way.

 

It worked before, so I don't know about that...

 

I would assume something came lose or the wiring done by the installer is messed up in someway.

 

That could be it. I had to pull the box under the dashboard out once before. I wonder if something just came unplugged. I'll check it out.

 

definitely the install. if it worked before, and doesn't work now, something was either disconnected and/or rearranged.could be as simple as a ground, so hunt for black wires, and while you're at it, check your fuses.

you beat me to the punch... thats exactly what it sounds like...

 

I guess I'll also try it with the Honda remote to see. Just gotta find it.

 

Did you ask in Audio, Security and Video? They might know a little more then us about this one...

depending on your alarm brand. if it is a viper, python, or any DEI product then you are hunting the plug with a blue and green wire. cant remember which one is unlock, but i'd say that one of them is loose since you are able to disarm the alarm.

oh and that plug might have a red wire in it as well so check for either just blue and green or blue green and red. red is a constant and may or may not be powered

 

and lock and unlock wires aren't fused so don't waste your time searching for a blown fuse
