Default car just cut off....green corrosion in dist. cap!!!!!??!?!

So i just drove from Dallas to Atlanta...car ran fine all the way here. As soon as i got here i changed my spark plugs, air fliter, oil, oil filter. Before i left Dallas i changed my internal coil cause it went bad and my cap and rotor and plug wires also. the timing belt, water pump was changed by the previous owner and i did a valve adjustment less than 5k ago and checked the timing. The car ran fine today...it started right up and pulled with no hesitation, lag, sputtering, ect... i got to a stoplight and it just cut off! I didn't even realize it had died until the light turned green and i wasn't going anywhere.
The first thing i thought was my fuel pump(just because) but i turned the key and i kicked on fine.
Second was maybe the cap and rotor went bad just from the trip....so i busted out my tools and took off the cap to fine this lime green colored corrosion on the little prongs in the cap, and the blade on the rotor. I happened to have another rotor in my car so i just switched them out...but i had no other cap.

MY question is what the hell is this green corrosion??? and also would a bad cap cause your car to just die like that??? or could it be towards the line or a bad distributor???

Im just trying to get a few answers now before i go and pay loads of money for a tow truck/mechanic for something i can fix on my own!!

I found that green crap all inside my cap yesterday, like green dust. I orderd a new cap and rotor so Ill see if that helps out.

Befor you took apart your cap, did you notice your car miss-firing or sputtering?

NO...thats the thing it wasn't sputtering, riding rough or anything...it was normal and smooth. I just got it towed to my house today and I switched out the cap, and the car started right up!!!
I was so excited that I decided to go for a drive.... about 2 minutes of driving, the car just died...like all power was lost except the electronics...my battery light did come on right before it died though. The good thing was that it died next to a shop...so I just pulled into the parking lot and locked her up. Imma go up there early tomorrow morning and see whats up, cause i gotta go to work on monday!

As said before, you need a new dizzy, there was condensation in it.

When Copper oxidizes it turns green, you could try rebuilding it yourself and cleaning up that oxidation with a wire brush.

So if theres green dust inside then the only way is to get a new dizzy? I hope mines dosent die on me soon. My car runs but it miss fires around 3k-4k under load and anytime befor that and after 4krpm its all good. It could be something else though. If it dies then Ill end up buying a EPM and run AEMs COP so I wont ever have a distributor fail on me.

You don't need to buy a new distributor, you just need to clean out all of the oxidation. Read the above posts.

yeah i took it to a shop and got an engine diagnostic and they said that it was a combination of my dizzy and my main relay. my main relay use to do that to me when it was hot but my dizzy got messed up when i drove from Dallas to Atlanta...it was used anyway, so i get what i paid for
