Default Slicks leaking through sidewalls...will innertubes fix it.

I have a set of 24.5in MT's that are leaking through the sidewalls. I am not quite sure how this happened but it leaks all the way around. I took them to a performance wheel shop and they said it was bad enough to tell me I should not run them anymore because they could blow out on me. Would installing inner tubes allow me to run them safely again? Kinda suck since the slicks only have maybe 20ish passes on them.

that right there would be enough for me.

BUT not having them in front of me i cant make that call.

slicks do lose air, how bad and fast are yours leaking?
i dont know.

but for what its worth, if that shop knows what they are doing and infact it is a tear or something, i wouldnt trust my life with a set of questionable tires.

You should be fine I know when one of my tubes got a hole in it, the slicks were leaking out of the sidewall. My thought process on why they leak out of the sidewall is because we run such low air pressure in the slicks and if you look at them when they are crinked and rolling the sidewall is taking that abuse. So as the tires grow older and start to dry rot and crack they will crack on the sidewalls.

I think if you throw a set of tubes in there you should be fine.

I'm thinking tubes also.

Do you have your rims drilled ?

That will help them to leak also.

rota's would leak to nothing over night.

I moved Nates in the trailer the other day and they still had lots of air in them. His rims are Lenzo's not drilled.

Our's are Welds Magnums drilled.

If you drill the wheels the screw should not be going through the other side of the bead, if it is you are using to long of a screw.

One leaks more than the other but filling them up at the track and running them on 10psi they would go almost completely flat before the event was over ~6 hours.

That is what the shop said the same thing and makes total sense. They do not look rotten or dryed out though. From what you guys have said, this seems to be normal and I should be fine running tubes. Do they make a difference on how the slicks perform?

They say tubes help increase the contact patch.

Our screws were not going all the way through the bead.

I believe Innes is who you want to buy tube from.

I'm sure theres a number of other places as well, but he's one of us.

I got my tubes from summitracing they use to make a summit brand which was a lot cheaper then MT and M&H I don't know if they sell the summit brand anymore.

what wheel are they on?

i know with lensos they are made just a shy big in the bead part of the wheel so the slick sits on their TIGHT. it took 55psi and gorilla snot to get my MT slicks mounted. it says on the slick to not go over 35psi when mounting hah. i dont use screws and no movement at all, nore leaking and my slicks are kinda old.

They are on lensos. Did you have to drill out the valve hole to fit them? I just ordered a set from MH. Do I have to buy MT tube for MT slicks? Didnt really think about that!

I went on there but they I did not see any for a 13in rim. Would have been nice since I was already buying a few other things from them.

You don't have to buy a tube from the same manufacture as your slicks. Jegs also sells them.
