Default Overheating problem

I've searched and couldn't seem to find anything really.

I got my 89 EF and it was overheating after a little while so got the new thermostat and was fine for about a week or so. Then a hose popped off and was overheating so I fixed that. And usually when I first start it up it might stutter or run a little rough for about a minute but is fine after that. However, NOW it has the stuttering problem (only while accelerating however) the whole time and starts overheating after about 10 min or so. Its really bugging me.. any ideas? one person said it was because of my cat and its backfiring but he wasn't sure... I dunno hellppp!

If it overheated that many times, im going to say warped head and the headgasket is [freak]ed.

Headgasket or head warped etc....

Sounds like you've got cyl pressure leaking into the cooling system.

Try doing a leakdown test or have it done, it should reveal the problem.

How do you do a leakdown test? I got similar problem too.
I don't see any leak under the car.
Yeah, I really hope it's not the head warp.
Thanks,

Same here - 89 LX with new rebuild, pump stat, rad, and all. Are there sensors that could set off something wrong? I'm running 3/4 temp like normally and when pushing up hills etc I use the heater to cool it. Also put new rad fan (initial problem before overheat/rebuild). Only 96K original - this shouldn't happen...

Thanks for any info before I take it in this weekend. Hope you had a great 4th!!
