Default 98 EX Cracked Header

Hi guys,

I own a 98 Civic EX and noticed recently that i have a cracked header. I've been looking around for a replacement with no luck. Even DC Sports 4-2-1 2pc headers are not available and i've looked everywhere (ebay, craigslist, etc.) for one.

So my question is what are my other options to fix the cracked header. Any input would be appreciated. Or if there is anyone out there that has an OEM header or DC Sports 4-2-1 2pc header that they would like to sell to me would be great too.

This is an emissions warranty item. Take it to your dealer, and they'll most likely replace this no charge.

Is it still under warranty even though its like a 12 yr old car? I think i would most likely pay for it at the dealership

its a d-series motor. i believe its a y8? if im not mistaken the y8 has a cat built into the header. thats why your having a difficult time finding what you need.

Y8 does not have a pre-cat built into the manifold, Y7 does. If the car is an EX, I would think it would have a Y8 engine, any D-series aftermarket header should work.

I'm not just looking for any aftermarket header, i'm either looking for another OEM header or a DC Sports 4-2-1 2pc header because i won't have any problem with smog test issues cuz i live in CA where there are alot of emission restrictions

Yup, when he said "emissions warranty" he meant that since it's considered a "gross polluter" its a free repair...kinda like those things the government (or whatever) has where you take your car to smog it and if it fails they fix it for free if it's under a certain amount of money. Since it's an OEM header, and it's cracked, they will replace it for free to make it run cleaner...

Oh, and your car is only 10 years old lol...just noticed that...

Welcome to HT!

Wrong.....that would actually depend on how many miles are on his car. If he's under 150,000 then yeah if not he's screwed.

Wouldn't it be worth a try at least. Emissions warranties are covered by the manufacture by law for 10 years. I have not heard of any mileage limits.

Just try!

Well from what I know....cuz I've been there done that already. Honda had extended their emission warranty to 15 years or 150,000 miles which ever comes first. In this case he's already over that warrant so they won't consider it. **** im about to hit 150,000 myself. But thank god I got a FTP sensor a ECU,ELD,O2 sensor and a free tune up about 2 months ago. All under warranty. But now im 20 miles to my deadline

see thats where i don't want to spend unnecessary money on non-CARB header and then later pay more for one that is.

rather just do it right the first time

at least call the dealership. This is a common problem.

My d16y7 cracked a manifold and I was at 12 years/180,000 miles but I just replaced it myself
