Default oil pan question

i noticed i have a pretty decent sized dent in my oil pan, I noticed because my car stopped engaging VTEC... Is it okay to use a soft-faced hammer/mallet to work the dent out the other way?

are you sure the dent is what is preventing vtec from engaging? only way i see that happeneing is if the oil pickup tube is somehow blocked from the dent...

the dent is located at the back of the oil pan... a few inches behind the drain plug, and it looks like its about 3/4-1" deep.

and my car makes this weird noise at higher rpms, like its muffled or restricted or something...

its a JDM d15b

hmm that shouldnt have anything to do with ur car making weird noises, my car was dropped 3" and i live in a town thats not very speed bump friendly so my **** was all kinds of banged up and never had an issue with it... even used my oil pan as a good jack stand a couple times and still had no issues lol... just take it off, and see if u cant pop it out from the inside thats what i'd try...

if your oil is dirty enough it will cause your vtec to not work, its happened to me... twice... i smoke a lot of reefer and dont keep track of when i changed my oil,,, about 5K miles on that oil and ctec stops working, i change it, then it starts working again... and as far as it looks, i dont think that would affect your engine at all.. your vtec and noise complaints is not related to your oil pan as far as i can tell, that dent is just about nothing...

i picked up a new gasket for it for 16.99 im gonna go ahead and hammer that bitch back out... my oil was changed less than 100 miles ago, but my cylinder head was replaced by a revalved/surfaced head and i threw in a cam and cam gear. so im gonna drain it, and strain it for crap in it and throw it back in, (used royal purple, not gonna waste it)

haha. i took the fkcin thing off and i couldnt even hammer it out, look at the 3rd pic down, theres all this metal **** covering the bottom of the oil pan. the gasket i bought from pep boys didnt fit, so i tried to reuse my old one and oil started spewing out everywhere when i test drove it. so i gotta pull that bitch back off and take the gasket with me and get a new one.

haha x2... but i liked my d15b better than my z6 or y8... "or even my old b16 for that reason" lol... i had my **** chipped and got it tuned when i was just i/h/e with PnP head, and the gas mileage was awesome, and still had my lil powerband action
