Default Tranny technical questions...

I am helping a friend with a ITR tranny...

When you shift between 2-3, there is a grinding senation almost like
the clutch isnt fully depressed...

When i opened the Tranny up, from what i see, the number 2 gear has grind marks

the scycros seem to look fine.. i dont see any wear marks..

Before the tranny gets put back together, i am looking to find a remody for the problem

Any thoughts??

i can probably take pics today if they would help...

Thanks

here are the pics.. arent the clearest, but will do...

this shows gear #2 with the grind marks...

overview to show the LSD and gear 2

upper scyros...

got a pic? the brass of the synchro is softer then the steel gear. If there is wear on the gear synchro teeth, there should be wear on the rings. Look for rounded edges on the teeth of the rings. When in doubt, replace them anyways

Those are not "grind marks".... every ITR tranny i've split has had these marks on gears on the countershaft and mainshaft. I don't remember specifically which gears, but it's normal. Um, Scott... if you read this, upload a high res of your countershaft and mainshaft if you have em......

Also, IMO, it's tough to tell if the brass synchro is worn... my 1-2 synchro looked fine, but when replaced, there was a noticable improvement.

{That's 1st gear on the countershaft BTW....} edit

This is common with b series transmissions that are driven hard.

Just replace the 2-3 syncro and you'll be fine.

I dunno... I do lots and lots of engine work, and am not intimidated by many things mechanical, however for some reason, transmissions really scare me. Thanks guys... I need a now...

Manual trannys are a walk in the park. Auto trannys are a whole different story.
