I have a 2002 RSX-S and just recently the vtec in first gear isnt working. It isnt hitting at all. RSX-S owners know the vtec hits at 6k stock but its not happening in my first gear. However, all the other gears hit strong as usuall. it;s very wierd. any help??

 

check your oil?

 

low oil usually throws a check light but its strange that it only happens in one gear

 

This happened more than once? Because I think the car needs to be somewhat warmed up before Vtec engages at all. Maybe it happened to cross that point after first gear and right before crossover in 2nd. Far-fetched but maybe...

 

is the car at operating temp??
it has to be warm to engage. it also runs off the oil pressure.

 

didnt know vtec engages in first or second gear. third gear vtec ftw

u say thst u buy oem catalytic convertor if so i have a stock one hrom a 02 rsx type s with 49k on it.

yup, fixed it. needed oil change and hits vtec perfect now in all gears
