I drove through a puddle!
My luck... It was raining very hard on Saturday. Trying to get to where I needed to get in a hurry, I drove quickly to my friend's house; however, before I got there... the check engine light came on. I decided to play it safe and drove straight home without stopping.
Once home and after the rain stopped, I checked under the hood. Oil level was fine, all other fluids fine, nothing looked out of sorts. I decided to drive it to the auto parts store so I could ask them to give me a reading on the check engine light. I made it three houses down and the car died on me. I shut it off and restarted the engine. I drove back home.
Today, had the mechanic come get the car with a wrecker. He called to say it was fixed and we asked, "What was wrong with it?"
"It got wet."
Did something with the CKP and CMP sensors. Lubed something. I don't understand it all.
How do I keep from doing this again? I didn't drive through "flood waters", just the puddles on the side of the road that splash the people on the sidewalk. Could it be condensation from the heat and then the rain (we are in Houston.)?
I'm out $250 ($65 reimbursable from insurance for the tow.)

You really should get alittle more info on exactly what the tech found. Im not really shure what could have hapened. Drive my honda in the water all the time. No Probs. Unless you have like a open wire somewhere. Or it just so happened the problem occured at that time so you thought the water had something to do with it. Anyway talk to the tech that fixed it and get alittle more info on what happended than come back if you have anymore questions.
having cracked or busted or even missing fuse/relay box lids can be a bad omen when it comes to water... cause going thru a puddle at speed shoots the water up high and washes back down on everything from the distributor cap to all the lids i mentioned, a relay gets shorted or a fuse blown and bam, problems...
had a busted lid like this once and i power washed the engine and got a relay soaking wet... it shorted out... truck wouldnt start... it was the fuel relay of all things... popped one out of my dads truck into my truck and it started, so i knew i just had to replace
