Feelings on ORSCA opening up classes for Sport Compact.
I spoke with the owners of ORSCA over the weekend and they are very open to bringing the Sport Compact racers in.
What do you think?
I feel it will be a very good move to go in their direction. The owners are very nice and honest guy's who know how to promote and run a fun/fair event.
What classes would be interested in running?
I think the modified guys would be able to run in the 10.5 classes.
They would be able to give weight breaks no problems.
They are all about good side by side racing. I don't see them being rule happy like other sanctioning bodies have been in the past, so it would open the door up for racing being fun once again. The flexibility of the rules would allow more racers the chance to get involved.
One of the issues in the past has been the abundance of rules which force some racers out. From the conversation we had it looks like if we show up they will make a place for anyone who wants to compete.

They are flexible enough to where things could be changed for us to run in the 1/4.
The reason they run 1/8 mile is because some of the classes are 3000 lbs cars with 3000 plus hp. They would run way to fast for that weight in the 1/4 mile. There is just no way a crash in a car that is that heavy running 220 plus mph would be able to keep the driver safe.

All for it and been for it. But how is 1/4 mile gonna work where some of the tracks they visit are only 1/8th mile?
Since this was just brought up this weekend I don't have an answer for you on that. We would have to get with ORSCA to figure that one out. I am sure there is a way to meet in the middle. ORSCA was very positive about us being part of the program.
I was very impressed with the smoothness of the event and how they ran things.

that sounds good to me. i guess they would only run sport compact when the event was at a 1/4 mile track

How about we just run 1/8th mile so that we have another place to race.
I see this as another opportunity to have a series to race at, dont think
its right to start making demands on the association.
Just my opinion.

I agree we do need a place to race that will take good care of us.
I do think we need to discuss what we would like to have and see what is passable. This weekend it would have been no problem to run either the 1/8 or the 1/4.

Give me an idea on what some of these cars run in the 1/8. I know what the Pro fwd cars run and most of the MOD cars. I have never looked at the Hot Rod times or the SFWD.
I'm very interested! Keep us up to date. I know most of the 10.5 races don't really have any classification for 4 cylinders and some require you to maintain the stock front subframe which MOD cars no longer have.
I am going to be getting back in touch with them tomorrow and wanted to get some feed back to give them so we have a direction to be thinking in.

Ive actually talked to guys that participate in orsca. I talked about running the 7.0 class this year. I may do a couple. All of the races are 3-4 hours or less from my home town except for the Etown race. They didn't object at all to me running the class. A SC class would be sweet though, i don't care if its 1/8th mile. I run 10.7 1/4 / 6.9 in the 1/8 on average for now.

UH come on Aaron you are smarter than that man! Haven't you seen Fast and Furious 2 where the Domestic guy races the Imports in Relay races? You run the car down the 1/8 then turn around the other way man , duh

They dont require to have a front sub frame. The 10.5" rules are pretty much the same as Modified in S.C.
We have raced alot of 10.5" races in the past 2 yrs. ORSCA has done a very good job in welcoming 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles. The first year we tried to run they wanted is to weigh almost 2800#'s when a small block with N20 could weigh 2600#'s.
The reason we ha to way that much is because of adjustable clutch, clutchless tranny, No inter cooler and on methanol. It took awhile for them to understand why we needed less weight and why we had to run a G-force and not a PowerGlide. But in the end they gave in and welcome us with open arms. Now they will allow us to weigh 2300#'s
Oh and our best 1/8 has been 4.71

That's smoking fast!!!!!!</TD></TR></TABLE>
THANX. There is plenty of more in it. Keep in mind the car is still set up for 1/4 mile battle. Most ORSCA cars are specifically geared for 1/8 mile.
And our weight with driver is roughly around 2300#'s with a 78mm turbo.
OH and this was on 10.5"w Hoosier tires
Here is a time slip
