blow by smoking
Hey im having some smoke come out of my tail pipe.. Well a lot actually, i have a b16a2. Before i had coolant eating so i had the head gasket replaced and valve job/adjustment along with that. That was done about 4 months ago.
I had a test pipe installed yesterday and i noticed more smoke now. It happens when i down shift on the freeway to high rpm and when im just driving normally on the freeway, exit and come to a stop, and when i take off from the stop i see the smoke. I am planning to do a leak down test, i have slight oil in 2 cyl spark plugs only on the threading so im not sure if its the O rings. Maybe pcv system? i had the valve replaced but i dont know if that black box on the pcv system can get full? And its not coolant burning its not the same smell and my coolant is fine so its burning oil.
btw im running a chipped ecu.
thanks!

update!
sorry its so late. Well i ended up getting a leak down test and it was horrrrible. Wasnt even in the yellow zone. So I went ahead and did a small rebuild using only what was necessary. I had local tuner shop install some OEM piston rings, also replaced the bearings with some ACL oem specs since they are prettty badly strached up. Previous owner probably ran with dirty or low oil. The crank looked fine. Also had a new clutch installed while at it. The car stopped smoking for sure. So far i have 1200 miles on the motor now and havent hit vtec, the clutch still is new so im afraid to drop it at high rpms. btw the head was redone half a year ago so i didnt bother doing anything else while the head was off. Sorry i did not take pics of the rebuild. But heres a picture of the ride for fun!
Also there was a good build up of gunk on the oil control rings...and all the rest haha.
Note i felt a big gain in torque so im positive im making more power with a fresh solid seal! And we left some carbon build up on top of the pistons to increase the compression. Wouldve cleaned it up but hey its just a daily car.

thanks for all the advice and help.

yeah im hoping its not the rings, im not spitting oil when i rev. Sorta short on cash, if it happens to be the rings and not the pcv valve do you know how much it cost normally?
alright so i researched some more and its probably not eating oil from the valve stem seals. Since if i turn on the car in the morning after sitting all night it doesnt smoke so oil is not dripping from there.
do a compression test. to see if it might be leaking from the rings i have the same problem. I had to hone and replace the rings so i just did an entire rebuild, while being super low on cash.

i thought you can still have bad rings even if a compression test is good?

yeah but it wont be good compression good enough to run but not performance good ... A leak down test is what you need... if you are smokeing all the time like that its not the valves eithers... valves would be only at high rpm... but you need new rings for sure.. just plan a weekend and do some research take of your oil pan .. main studs then unbolt your rods and pop out your pistons... you will need a ring compressor to properly seat them back in there .. rings are not the expensive part.. putting them in is what will cost you... you might wanna hone the sleeves cause they might not seal correctly during breaking because the sleeves might be worn too smooth... if your low on cash get a broken block hone it and get new bearings and rings and do a small rebuild ... best way do it all right... shop will prolly have to do your bearing to have the clearance right...... if you do it the cheap way you will only have more problems later
thanks for the comment guys. ill report back with the leak down tests and see what the issue is. I dont have to pull the motor to replace the rings correct?
so i was checking out my motor today and the pcv valve under my fuel rail was poped out! i plugged it back in but its not super tight i couldnt get to it. Hard spot. I drove it around and it smoked less. still smoked tho, same symptoms.
