Default Radio in '94 Won't Work

I drive a '94 Accord regularly. About three weeks ago I drove to work and had the radio on so I could listen to my iPod via it's cassette adapter. When I got off work seven hours later, the radio wouldn't produce sounds.

The radio is still fully functional: I can change stations, set presets and even play, rewind, fast forward a cassette tape. One of my coworkers says that one of the wires is probably grounding out. At first I was skeptical (its not like my car went over speed bump after speed bump at thirty-five miles an hour by itself while I was at work )

I started to believe myself that the car battery was getting low, I have no reason why just that its a 14 year old car and I have no idea when the battery was last replaced.

I didn't get shocked at all. (On an unrelated note I often get shocked as I close the car door from the outside, this is taught me to always push on the glass to close the door.) Whats even weirder (and I previously thought was unimportant) is that my radio will never turn off. There are times were it's off-off but I can never manually turn it off.

What I mean by that is I consider my radio off when I turn the volume all the way down, but there are times when I start my car and the radio doesn't even turn on - a bunch of button pressing/mashing will turn it on though. I've tried turning the volume **** until it clicks (like on walkie-talkies, turn the volume **** up past the click to turn it on all the way down past the click to turn it off) but nothing 'clicks.'

The radio has been like that before I obtained the car from my neighbors in August of '07.

If I can't find a cheap fix within a month or so I'll will certainly do that. Though a nice radio in an old car without an alarm is easy prey. However, right after I bought the vehicle I went ahead and purchased an automatic car un/locker thing (Makes my friend with his '96 Accord jealous but ever since he got a subwoofer and a new stereo in his Accord I've been wanting to get my radio fixed ) which has an alarm - and yes its been set off a few times already; often my own doing.

Tomorrow I'm going to screw off the covering to the centre console and peak around, jiggle wires and put electrical tape around open connections that may look hazardous. I'm still open for any idea's
