Default trying to revive the rex

i was thinking of trying to mess with my car again. it has been sitting long enough for the white car to be nearly black with tree gunk.

quick story-89 hf with 91 d16a6 with hf tranny- i floored it at a red light and at about 4500 rpms it popped and died. i'm thinking about 30mph maybe?(1st gear). i put it in 3rd and tried to pop the clutch to start it. nothing but a bunch of pops.

embarrassing-yes, but thats completely my fault, so....

i took it home and first thing checked my timing belt/ timing itself. it was all fine. checked for gas, it's there. spark on all 4 plugs, felt by hand just for reassurance- it WAS there, trust me! in all iput a new coil, cap/rotor, plugs wires, timing belt, checked and rechecked the timing(too many times). i tried to check the compression but not sure if i did it correctly. i'm thinking the rings may have burned up maybe, is that a possible cause for the pops though? everything seems to be working correctly with the valve cover removed.

all iget is a pop no matter what i do. sometimes it is louder than others, but its always there.

any suggestions?
