97 civic keyless entry only works in discovery mode

97 civic keyless entry only works in discovery mode
I'm using the image to program my keyless fob to my civic. I push the valet button to prompt discovery mode. I hit unlock and then lock about 6 times each. The locks cycle while it is in discovery mode. I let off velt button and the fob does not turn the locks any more. Any ideas guys?

Just incase anyone hits the search feature and is looking for the answer to my question the answer was you have to have the door closed while doing the programing.
