gas
The summer after I just bought my 2007 Honda Civic Si I was at the pump like any other day ready to fill up my car with the premium gas but by mistake I accidentally lifted up the diesel fuel nozzle and stuck it in my gas tank. Well the car was already 3/4 empty and I filled it up all the way. I was so angry because first of all aren't diesel fuel pumps supposed to be bigger so they wont fit into your car. That is what everybody has told and when I told them what happened they couldn't believe me. But at the Shell station in Anchorage the nozzle fit right it. It was the same size. I drove it home but on the way there was trouble it engine was making this weird noise and smoke was coming out of the engine. I called Honda and right away they towed in my car and serviced it. They told me they had to drain the all of the fuel out, change the spark plugs, and maybe do some other stuff. I even asked one of the service technician if it would permanently damage the engine and he said no. I would like a second opinion though and I am glad I found this site. Is my engine going to be okay? It has been almost a whole year now and I have never put anything but the premium grade gas in it and I haven't had any trouble. What do you think? No, diesel will NOT harm a gasoline engine, a gasoline engine with diesel in it will run like **** but it won't be harmed.
Diesel will actually clean all of the carbon and other crap out of your engine, basically it's like seafoam but better. That's how we use to make the farm trucks run like new back in the day, since diesel was cheaper back then you could just go get a couple quarts of diesel, throttle the engine up to about 2500 and start pouring the diesel into the carb, the engine would start coughing and smoke would pour out of the tailpipes but after doing that a few times the engine would run like a champ for years!
The diesel did need to get drained out because as I said, the engine will run like ****, but you didn't hurt anything, in fact, you might notice a difference in the way it runs when it comes back.

there are diesel pumps that are bigger for the truckers so thier tanks will fill faster. and also the same size for gasoline obviously. when you use the truck pumps you have to call the teller on the phone and give you the truck number and licence plate number. for the purpopse of the trucking company, for their record. at the regular pumps for diesel you dont. it is just easyer and more convienent.

Gasoline will destroy a diesel engine, that's the way my Dad says it so I adopted it without noticing that I was doing so.
Example from one of his blunders at the track: "When I hooked up the 1-2 linkage I got it reversed, apparently I launched in second without knowing it, when I got ready to shift into second I was actually going into first, the engine went from 7,200 RPM to 10,500 and commenced to come from together." That means that he blew it up, sorry for the misunderstanding.
