Default 05 rsx-s in limp mode

So as the title states, i have a friend with an 05 rsx-s with I/H/E and cams. The car is in limp mode i beleive because it wont go over 3k rpms. He has an Apexi Neo in it as well even tho its not compatible with the i-vtec and when i went and looked at the car it was the first thing i unplugged and that wasnt triggering the problem. he has a CEL on but i dont know what it is yet i will check it tomorrow. He said the CEL might be from the O2 sensor. I personally have a turbo'd d series so this motor is new to me! What are some of the common problems that would cause the K20z motor to go into limp mode? Any help is great, Thanks!

He didn't even get the CEL checked? Why do people ask these questions when their car wants to tell you the problem? Get the CEL checked, if he still can't get it fixed, then post. It'll probably be the o2 or air/fuel ratio being screwed up from that garbage tuning device.

Kpro is a ridiculous solution to a CEL.

"Oh you have a CEL? You had a bad o2 but I went ahead and installed one of the most expensive tuning devices on the market for ya. $1500 for kpro and tune please."

Thanks for that, it was very helpful......

As i said this is not my car so anything done to it (AFC Neo) was not my idea. I am going over there right now to completely unhook the neo and run the codes. All i was wondering is it common for these cars to go into limp mode and what most commonly triggers them. I was not asking you to tell me exactly what is wrong with the car i just want some practical issues with it.

I simply stated that because if he had it he could log on and it would tell him the code, decide what it is, fix it, clear it and be done. Its a great thing to start off with before you mod anything.

I'd agree if it wasn't $1000 and Autozone scans weren't free.

To answer OP, yes, it's pretty easy to get our motors to go into limp mode.

Go get the CEL checked at AutoZone.

If the CEL is indeed the O2 sensor, that has never caused me to go into limp mode.

He has cams, is the car tuned? If not then that may be the issue. It may be out of time also, that would cause limp mode.

With his set-up I would definitely recommend K-Pro, for tuning and for the ease of checking codes.

Would definitely throw it into limp mode.

Not anymore since it's put itself into limp mode.
