if i rev the car above 3K the tranni makes a uniqu rattling sound....sounds like ther is metal in there gettin thrown around kinda....very unique....

FACTS: 3rd gear syncro is going, no surprise, sometimes gets kicked out of gear
ONLY HAVIN ISSUES WITH 3rd gear.....

any thoughts on what it might be?

 

Could be your throw-out bearing or clutch starting to go bad. When you push in the clutch does it go away?

 

Are you running Synchromesh oil? If not that will definately help with 3rd gear. I had 3rd grinding everytime and now it doesn't grind at all.

The rattle: Don't know what that would be specifically but if you drain you gear oil you might find out.
My old Jeep tranny used to sound like a bag of rocks, they were known for that but it kept going and never gave me any trouble. It was a tough tranny. But Redline ATF gear oil quieted it down tremedously and also made it where I could get it into 1st gear when it was cold.

 

hmm, YOU KNOW I DID HAVE AN ISSUE WHEN THE TRANNI WAS FIRST INSTALLED! I installed exedy stage 2 cerramatalic clutch, and the pedal was previously adjusted prior to me putrchasing the car on the stock clutch....the throw out beearing was being pushed out too far....made a WHINING noise..... maybe i need to adjust my clutch pedal again....i will see if it does it when i press on the clutch later today.... i work 10 hours today, so , i will be hom ein the evening. thanks for the help....as for the syncro mesh....can i purchase at a Kragen? and how much on average will it cost? and i heard if you use anything other than honda OEM MTF it will hurt the seals or sumthin is this true>?

 

maybe a clutch spring broke had that happen to me had a sound of metal jumpin around in the tranny

 

ok so i went out and stomped on the clutch and revved, seems to not have an affect with the mechanical action of the clutch, but it also seems to start rattlin as soon as i hit 3KRPM..... i dunno its weird.....maybe a spring or sumthin.....

 

I have a similar problem. It makes a rattling noise like something is bouncing around inside around 1.5-2k RPM. Other than the noise, there are no other symptoms. Clutch works perfect and I can shift into all gear fine. I will see if the noise still happens when the clutch is pressed. I am not sure of the problem. I have heard people mention broken spring, throwout bearing, bad main bearing in trans, etc. I'm hoping its just a broken clutch spring, it sort of does sound like metal jumping around in the trans. The funny thing is that it only happens between 1.5-2k rpm.
