Default wider tires

I accidentally posted in the accord section earlier so i am reposting the same question here. I have a 1996 accord lx and i'm trying to get a wider tire. I believe it is 195 for the stock tire width on my hubcap. I know the 96 ITR rims fit my car and the 92-96 prelude rims as well, but after looking up the info, i found that both those cars had smaller wheelbases than the 5th gen accord. any ideas?
P.S. i do not want anything that is not a genuine honda wheel.

i am not sure what your question is.... are you trying to say that the itr/prelude wheel will rub ?

if you think this then the answer is NO. the itr wheel has a 50 offset and the accord oem ex wheel had 55 offset .... the steelies were prolly at around 50 offset.

rest assured the rims will work no problem.

just use 205/55-15 tires... slightly wider and the profile will be lower than the recommended 15" size for your car (195/60)

newer 98-02 accords had some decent looking oem wheels :

look in here at the 4 lug (4x114.3) ones:

no, i know that they won't rub. i'm just not happy with skinny tires. i'm basically trying to find the widest genuine honda rim with a 4x114.3 lug pattern so that i can get the widest tires possible. from the looks of it, the prelude and itr rims aren't much different in width.

There are limits, though. Generally, you can get tires that are 10-20 mm wider than stock without any problems. If you try using tires much wider than that, though, you are likely to run into problems with rubbing. (Even the 205/55-15 that OJ recommends isn't exactly best for your car, partly because the tire diameter is over 2 percent smaller than your stock size of 185/65-15.)

If you want wider tires because you are looking for better performance, you can always get a better, stickier tire, rather than a wider tire. This will give you a bigger benefit in performance terms than treadwidth itself will. For example, you can get the Yokohama ES100 summer tire in 195/60-15, and it will give you better performance than all-season tires. (Just don't use them in snow, where you need the winter performance of an all-season.)

If you want wider tires because you like the way they look, you might want to consider getting a set of larger wheels. Even though they would need tires that wouldn't be all that much wider, the larger wheels use tire sizes with a shorter sidewall, which makes the tires look wider. For example, you could get 16" wheels (some Preludes came with those) and put 205/50-16 or 205/55-16 tires on them. You could even go with 17" wheels with 205/45-17 tires, although for those you will probably need to buy aftermarket wheels.

The other alternative, if you really want wider tires because you like the way they look, is to get a different car. Family cars like the Accord generally don't have a lot of room in the wheel wells and aren't designed for larger, wider tires. Sports cars do. And the newer the car, the more likely it is to have wider tires. Yes, it probably means more money, and maybe it doesn't fit with your needs, but some things just don't work well together, and family cars and superwide tires fall into that category.

well the main reason i wanted wider tires was because my car just feels too loose on the road with the steering. It's not a mechanical issue...it's just the way the 5th gen accord is. You'd know if you've driven one. But ya i'm turbo charging my car...almost done with it. I just didn't want my steering to feel as loose, especially with the power jump. I'm not sure if stickier tires would compensate for the loose steering...I feel like that is strictly a wheelbase issue. I know i can get a wider aftermarket rim, but i really wanted to keep genuine honda rims. For some reason i'm just not a fan of aftermarket rims. haha

oops .. i always base 94-97 accord sizes on wagon ex stock tire size of 195/60-15

but yeah listen to ken. also the widest oem rim in 4x114 i believe was maybe 6 or 6.5.

mugen rims are not oem obviously but they fit to specs and are hubcentric to honda vehicles so that may be something to consider if u want a wider rim ie mf-8 16x7 4x114

A treadwidth difference of 10-20 mm isn't going to make a perceivable difference in that.

A grippier tire may help.
