ok so i just purchased a 92 hatch, and the owner said that it might have needed a valve job. when i was driving it home the engine was starting to overheat. so my question is does a valve job cause the engine to overheat? also how much would a valve job cost? its a b16. and if its not the valve what would other suggestiosn be on to why it is overheating? im new to this kind of stuff so sorry if this is an obvious question. thanks in advance

a valve job wouldnt cause the car to overheat just be down on power. as for the over heating could be a blown headgasket, crappy thermostate, old coolent. if you do have a valve job performed it will be between $150-$250 depending on who you go through

id like to add when i drove it home it had no exhaust piping nor muffler. would that have anything to do with it? also when i would be at a stop light the engine would rev itself slightly, every second or so? anyone know whats up?? let me know please and thanks in advance!

 

could be the TPS, or maybe a sensor.

your are just gonna have to start wiht the simple stuff, like checking the thermostat,and stuff like that.
