Default S2k Owners: A few Random S2k Questions...

I'll be picking up an 05 S2k w/in the week and I had a few questions.

1. I hear the stereo/speakers are suckass. With a decent headunit/component speaker upgrade and an amp/sub in the trunk..will the problem be solved?
2. Regarding the headunit. I have a 6month old Alpine unit, if I swap out the oem radio, will the dash mounted controls still work?
3. Soft top. The soft top has some wear in it, how much are they to buy/replace. I would get a hardtop too, but I'd like the oem top to be in good shape if it needed replaced. Also, something I can do? I've got skills.
4. What do you guys keep your leather conditioned with...looking for some good stuff, not autozone special.

Thanks in advance.

my MY 01 oem sound system is pretty good... i even have a clock on my radio and i heard that the s didnt have clocks until MY02 or 03

if you install the aftermarket headunit you will loose the controll feature, but i heard that there is an adapter u could purchase prolly from ricks that will make the controll work again

Stereo question:

personally, i put in an Alpine head unit, hooked up my ipod to it (well hidden), and then upgraded the speakers to some infinity kappa components - they slotted right on in.
I was planning to install a pair of JL audio 10" subs in the boot, but ended up not bothering - with the right head unit and speakers, the sound is loud and awesome - don't forget that the cabin is small, so sound doesn't have far to travel, plus there is a lot of 'stuff' between the boot and the cabin so bass is diminished. The other thing to consider is weight - this car is designed to be light. By adding subs and a decent amp, that's a lot of weight.
My dash controls are now useless and i haven't missed them once - the stereo is not a million miles away...

Modifry makes harnesses for several Alpine head units. About $90.

I have a Robbins top ($600), and it looks great. No reason not to get the glass window: the larger area of the plastic window doesn't give you more view (trunk spoiler cuts off the view in the larger plastic window). You can install it yourself if you have decent mechanical skills.

Awesome guys thanks.

Also, anyone know where to get a fitted car cover...for outside use?

Won't be able to garage this beauty all the time..so in between washes I'd like a nice fitted cover...for a reasonable price.

for leather care: Lexol. Awesome stuff.

As for controls, yes, I saw modifry makes a connector or something that will allow the dash controls use and probably makes better use of it, actually. I'm tempted as well to buy an alpine HU for my ipod.
