Overheating
My car was overheating but i thought it was due to the fan not working (fuses?thermostat?) Today I wired up the fan to the battery and went for a boot.... still over heats. What are other possible problems that could be causing overheating even with the fan working.
Also on a side note, which way should the fan be spinning ( i tried both ways and both overheat but just for future reference.)
Thanks

Have you checked your coolent level? Whens the last time it was changed, it is a good possiblity the thermo is stuck closed too, any leaks?
x2 on all the above. My car also overheated and I changed the thermostat, temp sens, fan, rad, and flushed the system. Is the water pump original? My inpeller actually came of the pump on the inside. On the OE pumps, the inpeller is just pressed on. It can come off and you will never know besides the overheating. Check the weep hole on the pump. Look from the drivers side under the car and up to you left in the middle of the block. If there is fluid on it at all IMO I would change it. The seal on it also is a one piece design and can get pinched and over time crack and leak to.
Thanks for the very informative replies. I have had a coolant leak before but have not noticed it lately. I want to check my water pump for what you said, how complicated is it fixing it. I dont want to start throwing parts at it until I figure out for sure where the problem is. I am not sure on the condition of the hoses how can I check. I dont have too much money to play around with so I would prefer to do what I can my self.
Radiator being clogged is possible.
Can you please explain how to check the inpeller piece?
thx

Did you get your fan to turn on when its supposed to?
Change out your thermostat no matter what. (the high heat could have messed up the spring on it) You could flush out your system as well.
If that doesn't work then be looking into your water pump. But if you change out your water pump. change your timing belt at the same time.

Remove your thermostat and check if it corrects the problem. Also check the radiator for rust, If you can get your hands on one, scan the temp on the bottom of the radiator and the top. That will tell you if the core of the radiator is rusted or clogged. All you need is a temp scanner that you can point. Check your temp sensor. Also check the ground since it is used for electrolysis of the collant fluid.(always overlooked)
