I've tried it all, and it doesn't seem to work no matter what Im doing. Enerpac press with Bluepoint piston pin removal kit. I tried pressing it out and no go... So I even got a heat gun and a infared temperature sensing gun and heated the piston/small end/pin up until it read 250-300*F on the surface. Still wont press out. How much pressure is used to push the pin out? Nobody here in the shop has done this before. I've gotten up to 2000 psi and it still wont budge.

Do I need to press with more than 2000psi of pressure?

Help me out guys with experience.

 

i have removed piston pins using a lot bigger pressing machine than yours..i couldnt remember what the reading on the pressure meter but it was pretty high (half way thru the reading in fact).. but that only went down once the pin moved. i thot i was going to break the piston.

 

It's been a while since I used a press, but 2000psi is nothing.

Get a much bigger press or take them to a machine shop.

I hope the parts you have are worth the effort.

 

Are those toyota pistons?

 

Yes... 7AFE pistons and rods.

I got it out guys.. just had to heat it with a torch instead since I wasn't getting enough heat penetration. Then I put 2000-3000psi of force and it slid right out.

heat the wrist pins with a propane torch. get it hot and then press them out with the press. repeat to install the wrist pins back in. if your not comfortable with doing that take them to a machine shop.

 

Another question? is is ok to heat the wrist pin and piston to 250-300*f with out it being messed up anyway to where it wont go back in and run right?

a piston sees alot higher temps then just 300degrees..your fine. I would be more concerned with you possibly cracking the piston with all the pressing you did before hand then the heat you exposed it to

 

Freeze the pin?? It will shrink...

 

i never use a press thats just not smart do you really think honda put such a drastic press on those pins??? we typically see about .001"/ side press-fit

put them in an oven(heating guns work well too but you need one with a heating zone for the complete bottom of the piston) and follow the oem service manual i do not recommend any type of press with w/e fixture you make taking them out cold is just stupid
