so whats the deal with them?
i hear that they kinda snap onto the door frame.
Whats to stop me from measuring it out perfectly, finding the right lengths and curves, welding bars together and bolting them into the roof of the car.
I don't understand how that wouldn't work.
what do y'all think?
because for all the work and time you would be doing that, you could just go onto craigslist and buy a used one for about $200 tops?
hell i got mine for $80 and its thule almost new condition.

You could do that - it's not too common with Honda's but on other makes of cars (older Volvos come to mind) it is common to make your own roof rack. People don't normally do that with Hondas because of the quality roof racks out there at relatively low prices. Or... you could buy a Thule or Yakima roof rack (which gives you two secure bars across the top of the car) then build your own luggage basket out of 2x4's - I've also seen that done and it works well. It actually looks very good when taking the car on, say, a canoeing trip or camping trip.
Anyway, I used my roof rack again over the weekend, carried an oak interior door/frame.
