Default Looking to...

Buy a civic si.

Is it common for people to attempt to sell another civic as an si?
One guy has a cleaan '99 up for 9k. LS/Vtec, all done professionally (paperwork to prove it), and 67K miles on the body. Paint job looks brand new.. and he doesn't have the DOC Vtec stickers, the Si badge on the back, or the Si wing. Which pretty much makes an si. Granted that's still in my opinion.

I asked him to take pictures of the vin numbers. One being on the dash (which can be replaced) and one being on the firewall (also can be replaced, but less likely)

I have yet to see an si this clean with those kinda miles, listed so damn cheap

What do you think?

rear disc?
color?
sunroof?

all are easilly swappable, and the ex had a sunroof.

cant remember how to read the vin wether em1 or ej8 is in the vin so i cant help you there.
the vin should be stanped into the firewall so its unlikely unless it is clipped.

pics?

Stickers and a spoiler dont make an EM1 "Si" There are lots of different things that make that chassis different from the next one down the lineup....from the factory.
You are right to question it and ask for the VIN, but dont be surprised if its EJ8 or even EJ6.

If youre looking to buy, I would just buy something cheaper. All that stuff shouldnt add that much value to the price of the car.

It has a sun roof, and I'm not sure about the rear disc. It's black but like I said, the paint looks new.

Now his post is deleted but he said he would get back to me with the vin numbers. I'll ask what happened to it and try to get pictures.

Well neither of those things are specific either.
The ex (ej8) had a sunroof and rear disc (if ABS) as an option.

Deleting the post is scetchy...Id be careful. I certainly wouldnt buy the car without seeing it in person to verify the VIN's match.

Yeah he put it back up, and then told me that the block that he was having put in by a shop turned out to be bad, it it's basically a shell. I have a b16 block sitting at my house and can do the work to put it together depending on how much he wants to charge for the shell. Here are some pictures. The valve colver is nasty.. I have another one though that I can throw on.

Pretty sure (If I'm seeing right) it has an Si gauge cluster. Not that that means much considering those are hella easy to swap (just had one swaped to a jdm cf one)

Oh and ps:

I didn't mean that they make it an Si.. I just mean that those are aspects of an Si that I really enjoy. Without them it just makes it look like any old civic you know? That's all in my opinion though

If youre only going by pictures, and I certainly wouldnt, the fact that there are em1 seats is probably a sign that it is what he says. Factory em1 seats (and all ek seats for that matter) suck big time. So I doubt anyone would want to put them in there...

Get the VIN. End of story.

But yeah, I have an si cluster in my ej8 too.

6k for the shell including the tranny is what I'm offering him.

He sent me the vin number. Looks like its on the door, but its an em1

He was going to throw in the pistons and the rod bearings for 7k but they are for a b20 block which does me no good.

6K is pretty steep for a shell, you should be able to find a complete, clean EM1 for around $8K nowadays.

Yeah I told him that I didnt want it. I dont think it was worth it. I found an Si thats blue with a full sound system in dash dvd, totally stock motor, 64k miles, runs great, si wing and bages.. all for only 8.

7 for a shell with none of that?? yeaaah no. lol

Thanks guys :]
