I learned the basics of engines and bolts from just being around the scene and the internet

I thought I knew everything, but these articles really expanded my knowledge:

Those articles are the sole reason I belong to Team Integra, there is alot of good info there.

If you really want to start with the basics, you should make sure you have a full understanding of the four-stroke combustion cycle, how cams work and how fuel systems work before you move on. I am constantly amazed at how many 'car guys' I meet who have only a vague understanding of the underlying principles. Think of these as the foundation; once you really understand them, everything else will make sense.

In the mean time, welcome to one of the greatest hobbies in the history of human kind (at least humans with Y chromosomes).
