Default first time at track with h22 civic!!! (timeslip inside)

went to the track tonight to run the **** out of the car kind of disappointed in the times, let me know what you guys think.

94 civic h22 m2b4 lsd
aem hybrid intake
lovefab header
2.5inch exhaust
cusco suspension

here is a timeslip of me vs a 02 corvette

me
60ft=2.27
330ft=6.2058
594ft=8.80
1/8=9.39
1/8mph=77.21

old vette guy
60ft=2.1969
330ft=6.159
594ft=8.75
1/8th=9.33
1/8mph=77.61

this is kind of a shitty track there wasn't anyyy traction. i always spun off the line and into 2nd gear feathering the throttle. passes were made on 185\60\14 at 35psi.

well your 60 foot needs help! what kind of tires? I wouldn't have had that much tire pressure maybe in the low 20's high teens...

I don't have any of my timeslips around for 1/8th mile reference right now, but i used to pull 2.0 60' all the time. That was even on crappy tires. Just work on getting off the line, and you will see your times drop a lot.

I went to an H22 in my EG from the stock D16Z6. All that torque can be tricky to get used to. Once you do though, it is all downhill.

thanks for the responses guys. the reason i didnt lower the tire pressure any is because they didnt have any air at the track and i have a 45 minute drive home so i didnt wanna run to low of pressure for that long of a drive.

and yes im still trying to get use to the powerband of the h22, the engine i had before this was a b16a, the h22a is a whollllleeeee different motor to work with.

and before i throw slicks on there i want to learn the car, and then i will start looking into slicks. i was thinking about looking into some drag radials for my 16 inch rims. but thats still down the road a lil while.

and the runs were made on bf goodrich traction t\a. there just all season 14 inch tires, nothing special at all.

next time i make it up there i will lower the pressure down to 20 in the front and go from there.

I always drove around on 20ish psi in my tires. The roads around here can be a little slippery, and that always helped.

Good luck and let us know how it goes next time!

i might be headed back up there this friday so i will drop the psi in my tires and see if i can pull some better times off.

i was just stoked by the look on the guys face in the corvette when i stayed right next to him all the way down the track!

where im from theres only about 2 imports that are decently quick and thats my buddys h22a 92 hatchback and my h22a 94 coupe. otherwise its mustangs corvettes and diesels.

finally made it back to the track.

and no luck again. i used 205/45/16 falken ziex's, at 20psi i managed to only run .07 faster with them. so i guess next on the list to do is pick up some drag radials.

so my question is what drag radial is everyone using? and how is the traction with them? im sure much better then what i have now. but what are you getting for your 60ft times with them?

thanks guys

first time at the track is good. kinda hard making any kind of decent '60 with a fwd car. much less one with "torque" (Hondas have little to none of this)

edit: Why would he put slicks on a stock motor car? (assuming you're not fully built or FI) why not instead just get a good set of sticky DRs.

well seeing that slicks are almost the same price as drag radials. why not spend the extra pennies

as im not looking to put slicks on my 16's because i drive on them all the time im going to by some azenis and give them a shot.

im shooting for a 2.0 60ft time and hopefully a 8.7 1/8th mile.

Azenis makes some good auto-x tires because the sidewall is stiff. They wont be as good for drag racing. Good luck! i know a little about the power of H!!!!

welp i actually just decided that im going to put decent tires on the 16's and go on a hunt for 2 15 inch rims to through drag radials on.

the track i go to doesnt see awhole lot of fwd cars that need slicks so they dont have a water pit for fwd cars, they only have one for the rwd cars.

go with full slicks. 13x8x22" MT or M&H slicks are perfect for your setup.

the burnout box can be used for either RWD or FWD. if you have to back into the box you will prob still fit in it. i used to go to a track where it was made for RWD cars and you had to back into the box really close to the wall... but it still works..

Good luck on your next time out! and buy slicks!! not DR!!!

its not possible there is a fence a couple feet behind the box, they just hate us fwd guys.

thats why im not even considering slicks, cause otherwise i would love to have them.

if i ever get the chance i will try and get a picture of it.

GL with that one, hope you don't snap an axle.

edit: stock axles, slicks and an aggressive launch.. doesn't really sound like it'll add up too well, at least not for long. I personally have never tried it as I've never needed them, but I've been advised against it.

do you know that you break more parts with drag radials due to wheel hop?

if you've never used slicks then please don't comment..

if you are afraid of breaking anything you shouldn't be racing your car....

running on stock axles should be fine with a stock H on slicks..

do a dry burnout. honestly drag radials are more prone to break axles. but its up to you.

really? i have never heard this before. you think the hasport axels will handle slicks? because its about 45mins away from my house where this track is at.

im not worried about breaking stuff im more worried about being stranded.

when im up there i drive it like i stole it.

but i always "heard" that dry burnouts on slicks can easily snap axels.
i dont have any experience with slicks but always just figured that made sense.

wow my stock 5th gen prelude times was faster than that..... i think i would be mad 2... one thing is for sure u had WAY 2 much tire pressure, most tracks have an air compressor, usally around the staging lanes so dont worry about having 2 drive home on low tire pressure.....

don't do low RPM burnouts.. you want to spin the tires. it won't sit there in one place on the dry burnout but you'll be fine. i ran mine for years with self made axles in my EG. is the car very low? if it is raising it up some will minimize axle damage. the angle is bad when with H22 swaps when the car is lowered a lot.

you should be good with some light wheels (Lenso's are a good price) 13x8x22's should work really well for that play around with launch RPM until you get it right..

once you run slicks you will never run street tire again....

Good lucK! and update us when you run..
