I'm not sure if it will fit or not, but 88 doors, and doors from 89 HFs are different than 89-91 doors, 89 HF excluded. They don't have the seat belts in the early doors, and the window is not as long, hence maybe that is the reason. I have used 89-91 regulators in 90-91 hatchbacks with no problems, but those are both door mounted seatbelt models.

Because the arms on the regulator are longer on the 88's and the bar with the two bolts in it that one of the arms rides in is longer in the 88's.

Your 91 has 88 doors or the 88 had 89-91 doors.
