I really would love to have a 2dr da. only electric.

He said it only gets about 40 miles per charge.
Thats alot of batteries, but he said that this summer a battery is being released that would allow for either a hundred, Or Hundreds of miles per charge. But for one battery its $5,000

Id say, Replace all those batteries with the single 5K battery.
And I wouldnt mind owning one.

He said its about $1 per 30 miles...
So pretty much paying $1 for a gallon of gas, Only not gas, Electricity.

Also, It's said with solor panels via your roof or another location.
You will get the electricity for free, so your paying nothing!
And they cant raise or tax or Charge you for energy from the sun....

40 miles to a charge is worthless for me, since I drive 30 just to get to work and I highly doubt my employer would like a huge lead to my car. If you could get 150 miles to a charge, then it might be a worth while investment.

It is "estimated" 40 miles per charge. I would love to see this thing go 40 miles at highway speeds. It might go 40 miles at 20mph. With typical driving habits and depending on terrain it would take 20-25 batteries of that capacity to net 60 miles of regular driving IN A CRX!! much less a 4 door DA. The controller is a very limiting factor to the conversion. It is a golf cart controller so your car is well...going to have the acceleration of a golf cart.

The only thing to come close to 100 miles per charge(on a conversion)with decent acceleration is a small aerodynamic car with lots of lead acid/lithium ion with a super expensive efficient A/C drive and controller...

Well, it's a sweet concept, but it's not going to be practical at all until the miles per charge and power output are significantly increased. Unless he just uses it to go to the grocery store...in that case, it's a pretty cheap/efficient grocery getter!

Mad props

I'm surprised on the first couple of comments. Obviously the car isn't going to be as usable as your standard combustion engine vehicles but give the man a break, Hes pushing the technology.

Huh? But it isn't that kind of the point of pushing technology? If it were a break through it would as usable as the cars we drive everyday. Otherwise it would take a while for it to be cost effective. I was simply trying to educate people who haven't really been introduced to the realm of EVs.

I am very interested in the concept its just hard to part with the money needed to make a decent conversion. My point was you can build something more usable than this 12k plus golf cart. Ev's are not right for everyone and especially not until better battery technology becomes affordable but a fairly simply conversion can serve the majority of our needs.Below is probably one of the most advanced and expensive conversions on the internet and it still leaves a lot to be desired.

The guy with the conversion also forgot to mention that this 5k battery is also going to demand an expensive battery monitering system and so on....

You have to take into account that he is doing Much Much more than a EV conversion... He is restoring the entire car itself...

So sry but no hammer this time...

that would take forever for it to pay for itself.

You could buy a MINT Integra and enough gas for many years with $12,000. I was just looking in HT Marketplace and someone is selling a super clean AGP '92 GSR for like $3k or $4k

With existing technology, it's hardly practical to build an electric car...let alone convert a nearly 20 year old sedan into one.

Since when do cars, especially built cars, pay for themselves?

The years of oil/gas are limited. I think this guy is simply the taking the older honda body and bringing it up to speed with the technology of the future.

Oh yeah, for sure. I'm as excited as the next guy for electric cars, especially since I saw the Tesla roadster. Tons of torque at any RPM? I'm in!

The problem I see with this guy's setup, though, is that it's costing a crapload of money and his car isn't very practical at all. Kudos to him for pushing the envelope; it's certainly unique. And it's his money so for the rest of us, it's nice to live vicariously through his project. However, I still maintain that with 2008 technology and fuel prices, his project isn't exactly practical or economical.

all this electric car stuff isnt new.....

the wrightspeed X1 can get better 1/4 mile times than a porsche, a lambo, or a farrari....

and still consume less energy than the electric equivalant of 170mpg......
