Default tranny starting to grind in 3rd

For some reason my little dx likes to slightly grind in 3rd but if I shift more slowly it wont do this pretty sure its the syncros would i be better off fixing 3rd or buying a EX/Si tranny. Also how will this affect my gas mileage?

The tranny can last a lot longer if you dont abuse it and shift slowly where it wont grind and maybe use some syncromesh. I say go for a ex/si tranny it will upset mpg but not too much.

If it were me, I would get another tranny. Putting a EX/Si tranny on your D15B7 will hurt mpg a bit, but it will make driving a little more fun

syncromesh is a tranny oil made by ac delco. it will help make the grinding stop, but ultimately you will need to get it fixed.

dx tranny's aren't worth to be rebuilt (unless you can do it yourself) so just pick up a used one from local forums/classifieds/junkyard.

at this point, you might want to think about just getting an engine swap anyways.

you can replace the trans but the next one will eventually do it too those 3rd gear syncros just go sooner for whatever reason. untill the trans you have just absolutly gives up on you , you can shift slowly and/or do a quick shift to 4th and straight up to 3rd to keep from grinding ( i had too do that at one time to get by untill the cash was available to purchase another trans back when i still had my d16z6)
