jdm b16 2nd generation vtec
just had the engine installed in my eg and it runs good and everything (no CEL) but when does vtec kick in? cuz it doesnt feel like vtec kicks in at all, anybody have any input about this, thanx.
well i think on the b16a2 it kicks in at 5400? correct me if wrong. not positive though. jes listen for it. you should def be able to tell.

The a2 kicks in at 5300, but the stock tach shows 5500. I learned this from someone who put in an APEXi VAFC and compared the two tachs.
You might have gotten B16 automatic cams. This
happened to guy I know and vtec was almost undetectible. He
found out when he got gsr cams and compared the auto one's to
some manual tranny cams (if that makes sense...?)

yes my engine is a jdm b16 2nd generation. whats weird is sometimes the CEL comes on then it shuts off and it comes on again.
but, yea it doesnt even feel like there is vtec, the rpms just climb normally and i feel no switchover.
about the automatic cams i ll have to look into to that.
i ll have to bring the car back to my mechanic cause i didnt install the motor myself ( i dont know too much about swaps yet - dont flame, not everybody has the tools and experience).

I paid closer attention this weekend to my tach, and it is 5300, I could have swore it was 5500 but it was switching over at 5300

i have the same motor in my civic and my vtec kicks in at 5500, thats what i see on my Si cluster. Yeah with this motor, VTEC is loud. might wanna check dents on your oil pan or a code 22. peace
